No. 9 Men's Lacrosse Hosts No. 6 Johns Hopkins Sunday night in a battle of top-10 teams

No one wants to hear or admit it, but this is a flawed team, and has been a flawed team all year. They are not going to be a tournament team and that's been clear well before tonight. It is what it is. 3rd year in a row our "top ten" team won't even make the tournament.

Last year there was a flawed NCAA Tournament selection process. Many teams in the tournament were not as good as Rutgers according to most Lacrosse experts.

Why did we let that kid jump around behind the net.
A quality player at this level will beat you if not under pressure, they would have never given us that kind of time.

We’re less than 10 plays from being #3 maybe.
That’s the difference between being a top 3 team and not. Converting on those plays. It’s no mistake why Hopkins is where they are and why we’re on the outside looking in

My mistake - 7 of the last 10 goals of the game. The AC injury excuse is weak. Other kids have stepped up. The problem against the B1G (except UMich) will be the D. And UMich was only down 6-5 in the third against Maryland before giving up the last 8 goals.

Rutgers must win 3 BIG games before the BIG tournament....so at Ohio State at the end of the season is basically a must win.

My mistake - 7 of the last 10 goals of the game. The AC injury excuse is weak. Other kids have stepped up. The problem against the B1G (except UMich) will be the D. And UMich was only down 6-5 in the third against Maryland before giving up the last 8 goals.

That’s A LOT of goals to give up to end the game.

No excuse we gave up a goal with 2 second left on the clock. We got jobbed on the first shot clock. And the last rule I don’t know if the shot has to be out of the stick or cross the goal line before the clock expires,

I believe it has to be out of the stick. Gotta give credit on the last play. The kid made a play. No way was that goal not a missed call. College lacrosse needs a shot clock. It's makes no sense now. Within 10 seconds everyone watching or in the stadium knows it wasn't a goal. Tough, tough one to take. If you exclude Albany, Hopkins might be perceived as the best team in the country right now. Gotta like how we compete. Kids showed heart. One more play and we win that.

Need to rebound next weekend. It's now the biggest game of the season.

Our D is very good. It isn't a "problem".

It happens all the time. With the way D's slough off now, the backside guy plays above the goal line. If the ball is spun fast enough, or in other situations, you get them hung up. We do it to other teams, they do it to us. It happens a lot.

Unfortunately for us, the guy they had with the ball is probably the best feeder in the game today. Not sure how we would have played that much differently honestly. They made a great play. Just tip the cap on that one.

They dominated possession the entire game.

Some of that possession time is way over inflated. They were taking some horrendous shots in the first. The kind a D says we'll give those to you. They were getting the ball back and taking similar shots. Then we'd get it and score in a minute.

Faceoffs were actually better than I had hoped. Their guy is definitely top 5 in the country. We did well there considering.

It was a game of plays. They made one more than we did. That's it. And the refs giving them a goal that wasn't deserved didn't help.

I really don’t get it. One has to wonder after seeing the “crease violation” verse Cuse and that blatant shot clock violation in the third. How is that missed? You’re looking right at the clock. Also, what’s the deal with review? The game was televised. Stuff like that has to be reviewed. I’m not a lacrosse expert so I don’t know if they even have review. But this stuff needs to be correct. That ticks me off. Two very competitive teams so every goal is huge. That came at a very pivotal moment of the game and Hopkins wa gifted a big play. Yes, we need to close it out. But that’s huge

This season has been the worst I have ever seen. I watch a lot of lacrosse. Refs are missing calls left and right.

In a day and age of technology and replays being shown at home and on the jumbotron, when everyone knows the call was missed within 10 seconds of it being called a goal, something needs to change.

There is no review in college lacrosse which is the dumbest thing ever. The goals just mean too much.

Our one on one defense was excellent I am not sure if we were playing a zone sometime but our switches were not good and I bet the scored 7or 8 goals off of guys being unmarked in front

That’s unacceptable. Between the selection committee and some of these calls, I’m at the stage of “why play the games?” I hate to be negative, but that’s a game changer.

Any loss is hard to take, but this was not a bad loss tonight. RU still on track, but need to rebound with some big wins.
Yep ... RU gets 4 losses and no tourney last 2 years ... already at 3 ... guess RU needs to win the tourney to get in.

Baseball lost against a bad MSU team ... softball lost to a very bad 6 win Penn St ... and lacrosse lost in last minute ... did any RU team win? ... Happy Easter!!!!!

Our schedule strength is much better this year. We traded NJIT for Syracuse.

Nothing will surprise me in the B1G this year. One thing I will predict- there will be no undefeated teams in this conference. I’ll go one further out on the limb. Penn St. beats Hopkins in two weeks.

Some how games like against Johns Hopkins are the normal course of events,ie,play close and then lose the game on a questionable call.Bottom line Rutgers lost a important game at home and that is the only thing that matters in the score book, rankings and post season invitations.

The stats of this game were incredibly close. If I just saw these, I would have said we would have won. Our 3 more turnovers and a non goal called good were the difference.

That was a an incredibly well played lacrosse game across the board.

Being outscored 7-3 down the stretch at home is not my definition of "showing heart". It will interesting to see how the kids' attitude and focus come out against UMich. That program has come a long way this season with the win at ND and playing Maryland even for the first 35 minutes the other day before an epic collapse.

As far as the Rutgers D -- I think a couple of the middies have too short an attention span to defend against patient teams.

I’m with you on this. I’m tired of hearing “our guys showed heart” and “this was was a tough team.” Just win

At this level, I can see the time and space factor clearly.
You give a player of that ability time to make a play, he’s gonna do it.
I could be wrong Cali, but if the situation was reversed and Jules was back there for us, I think Hopkins would have forced him to make a decision with the ball sooner.

You would know!

It was actually the smart how we played it up until the slide. Time was running out. We had an extra defender sitting in the pocket. To force him to make a play would be the riskiest move possible. We sealed off the inside and cutters well. To get to him means you are giving up a step to the other side of the goal. Again, in that situation, it's the riskiest move you could make.

Our best defender was on him. I am sure if they had to do it over again, they wouldn't have slid, creating the feeding opportunity. Their kid isn't a great one on one finisher. He is a great feeder. When he came around the goal, Rex had had great position. I would have liked to see him forced to try to make a play on goal instead of sliding unnecessarily. But that's our style. For better or worse, we play aggressive in those sliding situations. It often works out. This time it didn't. You tip the cap. Kid made a great feed and that finish was elite.

Jules gets to that position often. It's typically played the same exact way. With timer on, it's even more prudent to play it that way.

And hat's off to our fogo, Francisco. He bested one of the best guys in the country. Had a great day. Again, looking at those stats only, I would have predicted a win. Tough one, but you move on.

Key at this point is beating Michigan, OSU and PSU. At this point I'd say we are the 3rd best team in the B1G after Maryland and Hopkins. If we finish 3rd in the B1G I think we should be fine. Finish 4th and we probably need to win vs Maryland or Hopkins in the first round of the tourney.

Finish 3rd and we are in. No doubt. We have played the schedule game and RPI game too well.

The B1G is a 3 team league at minimum. I could see 4 depending on how things shake out, and even 5 isn't out of the realm if they go a certain way.

So on the last goal -- was #13 wrong to leave his man to double team or was #14 too slow to slide over?

It was a bang bang play. And our philosophy. I would say they just made a play. I would have liked to have seen us not slide at all. 32 is a great feeder. He isn’t a great scorer. Make him do something he isn’t his strongest at. Rex had him. Even so, they made a great play. The slides were there. Their kid scored falling down with an underhanded rip that went on the pipe.

Sometimes you just tip the cap. This was one.
