NO parking in Johnson Park this year!

I would assume one could still park for free by the zoo for day games. There is no time parking limit there.
I could see a towing company just watching to see where people go to tow them. I wouldn't risk it.

Absent an explanation from Middlesex County -- and I don't expect them to provide an actual explanation, rather just something vague and barely believable -- the rest of this is just speculation.
My conspiracy theory is: Rutgers asked Middlesex County Sheriffs Department to take a hike, so Middlesex County took away the lot.
Having said that, I like this theory.

Why would RU ask the Middlesex County Sheriff Dept. to take a hike in the first place ?

Clicked on link. RU is running a good deal on tickets - 4 pack in endzone for only $100.

So about that official statement ...

MCSD were the cops that hassled everyone about drinking and caused a lot of issues, going into people's tailgates and ticketing underage drinkers who were sitting with their parents.

That was actually my initial thought about the reason behind this.

As mentioned above, MCSO's have been the biggest problem in the tailgate lots for the past few years.

They were the worst those sheriff officers. Are they gone this year?

At $45 a car there's no way in hell they're losing money. They were making a boat load. So that's not the reason. This is a very plausible explanation. F'em they were d*ckbags anyway. The county will come up with some crock of sh*t excuse.

I never understood why the university didn't lease the park for games. Throw a ton of money at the parks so they make out. Rutgers makes out by selling some prime parking.
I'm not sure there is value in Rutgers throwing a ton of money to get prime parking, considering that Rutgers owns all the land on the other side of River Rd, which is where the university prime parking is. Rutgers is currently getting $500 to $2500 per car parked in the Scarlet, Green, Yellow, and Blue lots (plus $40-$50 per game). If Rutgers were to throw a lot of money at the park commission, and required a $1000 donation for Johnson Park, I don't know that they'd get incremental people paying the fee, versus just cannibalizing people parking in the Yellow lot.

The people affected by the Park Commission not offering parking in Johnson Park are people who don't have season tickets and people who don't want to pay the fees associated with premium season parking.

The area where football parking was previously offered in Johnson Park holds maybe 300 cars. If Rutgers were to charge an exorbitant $100 per car per game, that is only $210K per season. There is not a lot of money there to "throw a ton of money to the park commission".

uber, walk, go on line and buy someone's or better yet buy a season parking pass--man, do folks love to bitch especially when it's about RU

The space held about 300 cars (and I think that is a high estimate). At $45 per car, that means they took in $13,500 per game. I'm not sure what the expenses were for the Park Commission in terms of manpower, maintenance, insurance, and repair. I'm not sure that I'd call their profit "a boat load". I think it is probably borderline for them to wonder if it is worth the hassle.

They made the lot over by the horse track a paid lot as well last year. I'd add easily 150 to 200 cars to your figure. I'm sure the county employees enjoyed all that overtime and it was worth it for them.

Wasn't the area by the horsetrack free for first responders and $20 for everyone else? Even if it was 200 paid cars, that's an additional $2000.

And while I'm sure the county employees enjoyed the overtime, I'm not sure the county enjoyed paying it. And that's sort of the point. Parking in Johnson Park isn't some magical revenue stream for the county. At best, it is probably a flip of the coin situation.

Not to mention, it would be difficult for Rutgers to accept donations for that lot as I believe it is closed when too wet. That would surely upset a lot of people that paid big bucks to park there.

Who do we blame? Julie? Flood? Hobbs? Barchi?
Christie?

Everyone paid. We have two officers in our tailgate and we had to pay. We used our parking passes last year, after that because visiting fans just took over and they crammed them in.

How much was parking by the racetrack?
You know I can't recall.(getting old) As soon as we found out it was so crowded, we said F this we'll use our parking passes from now on. At the time I was extremely pissed no warning was given. It was just bam you get there and it's changed. Never went back and it looks like we'll never be going back.(at least we have a warning this time) It was nice to walk along the river but I'll survive.

Agreed. They were way to aggressive to the point of harassment. Free money for MCSD, bad tailgating due to overly zealous enforcement for RU.

Or guys who's wife starts tailgates for evening games at 7AM and don't want to spend 18 hours in the Blue lot. Sigh

Was this just Johnson Park or were they also the ones reaping havoc on the blue lot with their ATVs last year?

The ticket givers in Blue lot were MCSD. One guy was a good guy though...the tried to walk ahead of the ticket giver & warn people.

Is this the case? Isn't the area directly across from the South Gate Entrance across River Rd. also Johnson Park property? That grass area appears to hold a lot of cars and along with the paved lot on the other side of the Park must hold more than 300 cars.

The parking area between Landing Lane and the South Gate is the area that I referred to as holding 300 cars.

The paved lot further down River Rd, on the other side of Rt 18, would not command the same premium. That is about as far from the stadium as the Black lot.

F' Piscataway & F' Middlesex County. Rutgers should ban all of 'em from the property. Why we let the jerkoff Piscataway Fire Marshal to even see much less legislate the stadium cannon is beyond me. Yet another wonderful "partnership" like the Yankees.[poop]
