Not a lot of RU/MSU threads this week

I just didn't see a lot of threads pertaining to the football game today. Not being critical of anyone, but just an observation - been on these boards a long time (was under a different moniker for several years before - and no, I didn't get thrown off) and I think this may be some of the least amount of activity I've seen for an upcoming game. You would have thought it was a bye week this week - I'll be the first to say I've stepped back a little bit because it can be frustrating to watch. Maybe it's just a tough week because of the intense, sometimes violent divide going on in this country right now. Either way like most of you on here we've been through a LOT supporting this team and university - hopefully good days ahead - GO RU!!!!!

I think everyone has come to the same conclusion, we suck. Losing 6 games in a row and getting absolutely pummeled in two of them will do exactly what's happening now to a fan base. Even the diehards will lose some, but not all interest.

We had a ray of hope with Gio then that was smashed rather quickly(hamstring). Rebuilds simply blow donkey balls. It's a slow tedious process which incorporates a helluva lot of loses, ridicule and pain. There's no real beacon of hope for this year or probably next. We are in the twilight of the shittiest part of a rebuild. Embrace the suck my friend, I finally have.

We don't suck and things are not as bleak as you project. Rather than project gloom and doom, why not enjoy the parts of the process that look bright? And there are some. The emergence of Gio. The emergence of Seymour on OL, Damon Hayes in the defensive backfield, Harris stepping up, Hester has been fairly solid.

The OL performance has been puzzling this year, and it is hard to imagine it getting worse next year, even though we lose Nelson and Muller. Could it get any worse?

Was listening to a radio interview of Chris Petersen a few weeks ago by Mike K (the Duke coach). He reviewed how things progressed at UW from year 1 to this year, and he said basically the same thing Ash has said- the need to get something along the lines of "our kind of guys," establishing a culture, and being CONSISTENT. You hear Ash harp on that word CONSISTENT after every game, evaluating every playing unit and every player. Petersen noted that last year there were some flashes of good play, but they were not CONSISTENT.

So, we have some small flashes of good play, and hopefully we will see more consistency in the next three games.

As to the OP's observation, YOU can start football threads too. The other thing about this week is that people may be focused and/or shell-shocked by the election results. The CE board is brimming with activity. The weekly look alike and haiku threads have been dead, and we have not had one MSU visitor on this board this week--maybe they are too ashamed to be in the basement slugging it out for which team remains there?

Peoples interest is just way down right now. I saw tge same thing happen in hoops. Only seeing good performances keeps hope alive and interest up. Right now are in the doldrums

To begin with, we don't have the largest/strongest fan base. A losing season shrinks it even more. That said, I'll be watching the game, even though expecting the usual result. Go RU!

This whole year has been a "Step Back" for me.The Joie Vivre

A Lot of the joie de vivre has been sucked out of this season for me. There just isn't the same edge of anticipation and expectation. Next year will be different as all the schemes and methodology will be in place. Hope we have the troops to get it going.

i am positive for future, Flood did a lot of damage. Looking forward to the future receivers coming in.

I wouldn't describe us as sucking. Sucking would be year 2 of the Terry Shea regime where we went 0-11, and had no real chance in any of those games. We've had a chance to win the majority of our games, with the exceptions being Washington, OSU, and Michigan. We just didn't get the job done in our other games, for whatever reason. We just got to get better and finish as strong as we can.

This fan base is nowhere near the one that continued to support the Cubs year in and year out. We are simply the product of a school that generally went out of their way to keep itself out of the "big time" lights for decades.
The fact that we are, again, in a less than great year is the usual, not a shock like it is for MSU or Notre Dame. This is the "same old Rutgers" that many think of when you talk college sports.
Will this change? Hopefully, yes but right now it is where many of us are used to being.
