This was the second contest between the two played at Baltimore Stadium (later the home of the Orioles). The first was November 21, 1940. In that game, the drop kick was a favorite method of field goal scoring until 1934 when the ball became more pointed at each end. This type of kick quickly faded as it became difficult to achieve a reliable bounce off the ground when dropped for a kick. The last known successful drop kick against Rutgers was by quarterback/kicker Joe Murphy who scored 13 points in a 14-7 Maryland win at Baltimore Stadium on November 21, 1940 including a drop-kick of the final point.
