EO has shown he can improve and has been performing better.

Yesterday, in only 16 minutes: 5 points ( 2-3 FG, 1-1 FT), 5 rebounds, 3 blocks and 0 turnovers.

Should have played at least 20 minutes imo. In a 1-point game when we needed a presence inside, he could’ve made the difference.

Brought a friend to the game who had never attended any Rutgers sporting event before (he went to RU-Newark) and doesn't watch basketball.

He said "that big guy" should play more about Ogbole.
I explained that he starts but goes out after 5-6 min and doesn't play anymore.

Every time Lathan had a bad play in the 2nd half he would say "See. That other guy wouldn't have done that/let that play happen."

In game 1 he "made" a basket in reverse - ball through the hoop from underneath. In game 2 near the basket, his attempt hit the top of the backboard. So yes, Ogbole has improved a lot and helps the team when he's on the court.

And while his hands still need work he has improved at holding onto the ball. Meanwhile we have guards (Derkack, JWill) who have more loose balls and rebounds bounce off their hands per capita than anyone.

Here's his last 4 games and adjusted numbers if he had played 25mins vs. 16 per game. This doesn't account for what his presence in the middle can do for us.

With Ogbole in game at end, Princeton would have to make an outside shot to win the game.

Not back us down to the rim like a one on one game on a playground.

Princeton had 5 guys behind the 3pt line on the last play…Pierce decided to take it himself into the paint backing Jordan down and going at him 1:1. Only possibility there was helpside from another player and that was potentially Ace who would have had to come off his man ready to shoot a 3.

I don’t understand why Jordan got caught covering him and how come we didn’t double at any point to get the ball out of his hands.
I would have preferred the lower percentage shot there from 3 or even preferably fouled them as they were still in 1:1 situation and were not shooting well. Do that at the 10sec mark and we would have had the ball to setup a better shot at the end to win it as you would have only needed 2pts

And, in those 4 games he has shot a very efficient 81% from the floor (9-11) and 75% from the line (3-4). Showing measurable improvement.

Bottom line is what they did to win was too easy. RU needed better defensive set up and personnel at end of game. Coaching could have made a difference in win or loss.

We had no timeouts left because Pikell took the timeout with 54 seconds left and the second he took it I looked at my daughter and said that is going to come back to haunt us and it did

I wouldn't mind seeing more of him. He is mean. Lathan is letting guys rebound and coast in for layups like it's a layup line. Lathan has a great offensive game but it gets wiped out by his defense. Kid needs to get mean and start learning he's 6-10 260/280. Get mean big man!

Great? Hardly… and he ain’t 6’10”

Or Derkack could have just fouled him hard enough before the shot to send him to the line to earn it, especially given how poor Princeton had been at the line that game (Pierce himself was 0-2). Lots of things that could have been done differently - on that play and much of the rest of the game.

The 1st half-2nd half box score and box score in general is really frustrating to look at. I knew PU wasn't going to continue to shoot so poorly and we would cool off. PU went 1-7 Free Throw then 7-11. And we went 59% to 36% from the field as examples. Out rebounded. Points in the paint. SMH

maybe a stupid question (my son who's pretty good BB IQ thinks so too)...couldn't LS play the 4 and have both bigs in there vs. Zach? They're not exactly foul machines.

There were a few drives where the Princeton players blow by their guys for an open layup and Latham only managed a lazy swipe at the ball . Maybe ogbole would have atleast fouled the kid - make them rethink driving all the way to hoop next time they punked the RU perimeter defender

Sommerville will be a great player for whatever team has him as a junior. I hope it's us, but that may not be in the cards.

Seems like a long shot we’ll even have him next year. He wanted more PT this year to put up stats that would earn him the best NIL deal next year. There’s really no other angle to interpret from. NIL notwithstanding, frosh pay their dues on major conference teams. Period. Unfortunately - he may hurt more than he helps this year. +/- isn’t the end all but it’s definitely noticable that the MOV trends against us when he’s on the floor even though he’s putting up offensive stats. The defense tanks and his offense as a stand alone doesn’t factor in that even if he scores, his attempt took away from another attempt by Dylan or Ace that likely would’ve resulted in points anyway.

Pike doesn't know how to use Ogbole at all

Bigger problem. Ogbole knows he's not the focal point and will clear up space for others to score

Lathan has some awful habits to try scoring over 3 guys with very small percentage of making the basket, and each miss kills the possession. He very rarely will pass once he feels the need to score, no matter how many are guarding him.

At this point, Martini needs to become an "in case of emergency, break glass" option. Ogbole and Sommerville each deserve 25 min, too, which would mean playing both together for stretches.

Sommerville needs to focus a lot on defense, but reps against live opponents are needed.

EO needs more PT.

He & Sommerville finishing with 1 foul is also telling.

Seriously - the bigs should be EARNING more fouls. The ole defense Latham showed on some of the plays was concerning. Opposing player has an open shot - make a play!!! If you foul in the process so be it. But a lazy swipe at the ball as the opposing player drives for an open layup or dunk - just ridiculous

EO has looked good and gives us an inside presence on D

We should commit more fouls to prevent r easy buckets when players and the team aren't in foul trouble... or to send a message that it's not easy buckets all day at the rim

Lathan especially has to be willing to foul. At least twice he stood nearby and let a Princeton player take it right to the hole uncontested.

Not true. Princeton spreads the court leaving the Rutgers center away from the basket.

Exactly!

We need the pistons of the 90s to come in here and teach this team how to foul and eliminate any And 1s…create a mean streak with them or something to intimidate the other team.

Actually the team should watch every layup attempt by Jmike and how the other team treats him.

That doesn’t dispute Pierce not being able to back down Ogbole under the rim for a layup.

Make Princeton beat you with a deep shot.
