On the Banks: Steve Pikiell unplugged

Coach Pikiell is exactly what this program needs. I hope the University, players, fans and recruits believe in his vision and passion.

Hope everyone supports this program. Its finally in good hands.

We've been down this road so many times before, but I agree that this time it feels a little different (in a positive way). PLEASE, let Pikiell be the one who finally gets it done!

Patience, patience, patience is what he needs from the fan base.

But I can all but guarantee you the first time an Indiana or Michigan St comes into town and wins 86-52 there will be thread after thread with these types of posts:

1)I knew we were bad but THIS bad...
2)I can take losing but where is the offensive execution? It's like controlled chaos out there, it's like they haven't been coached and
3)No way they are 34 points better than RU, that is some terrible coaching...

4) Why isn't Sheridan getting minutes?

And forget it if they lose to a FDU again. All those pre-season posts about Pikiel being the guy and showing patience will be long out the window.

Also, It feels different because of the commitment up the line all the way to the President. The upcoming practice facility, locker rooms being redone, air conditioning in the RAC and spending the money for top notch assistants......the best and highest paid assistants in the history of Rutgers Basketball.

Agreed.

What am I missing here? We beat FDU, who played in the NCAA tourney, last year. FDU coach Greg Herenda is doing a nice job. FDU is not the cupcake it often was.

I totally agree. He shed light on a couple different places. He did say though that he feels we can win right now, without all the shiny things. Why cant he win now?His most important message is "Believe in me, I believe in you" If he gets that, I think he can have his improvement this year. If he can get kids to believe that what him and Jay Young want of them is for their best interest, we will see change this year.

It's so refreshing to have a coach who has a plan and is clearly in control, and knows exactly what he wants. Instead of a kindly old coach who is sort of just coasting and doesn't really know what to do on the college level.

I feel like we bought a brand new iPhone 7 and threw out the old flip phone.

And they easily could. And, you're right - our fan base will immediately revert back to the "same old" mentality. But that's the nature of college sports, especially when one follows a perennial doormat of a program.

To avoid saying the same thing over all season long.....you should just get a small picture of all the former coaches, pin them up and throw darts at them.

Fair enough, insert another small school (St. Peter's) but you get my point.

Any doubt go over to football board and see what happened after the Washington, OSU and Michigan games regarding the Ash hiring. Not everyone but you get my drift.

Almost Schiano-like in his enthusiasm and his belief in himself and his players--but without the need to control everything that Schiano evinced. This guy hired on an accomplished staff and will give them the support-and space--they need to do their jobs, not worrying about whether one of them might overshadow him. Like any good overall boss should do.
