First match live and enjoyed immensely. Lots of terrific efforts even in a couple of losses at 174 and 197. The RAC can be a special venue even when not that full. Congrats to the team.

RAC crowd showed that you don't need anywhere near a sellout to be loud there. Atmosphere was great, but it would be nice if our marketing folks could make a push to get more people there for the next one. RU wrestling is putting out a quality product that folks need to see.

Agreed this attendance today was just from word of mouth. My season ticket group brought four more with us. They would have never known about this match unless we told them and they were surprised we were ranked 11th. RU's advertising budget must be next to zero for wrestling. You think they would want to promote the few good sports they have but they don't.

It was amazing to be there. The staff told Billy Smith the team criteria and that he needed a 5pt victory or better for the team win. Given Billy's loss at Iowa, he could have used a major against Jensen a ranked opponent. Billy was up 6 points including riding in the third period, so a takedown is a major for him. But if Jensen got the takedown and rode Billy, then Bill wins by 4 personally and the team loses by criteria. So Billy backed off an coasted to 6 point margin. That is leadership. From top to bottom this was one heck of a victory.
Makes sense now. Have to admit while at the match most were thinking Billy needed to take one more shot for the major so we win outright. I thought there was criteria to settle a time but had no clue where we stood on that or honestly what the criteria was beyond matches won. It was really a strange feeling since I was happy he won and he seemed very happy but I was not sure if the match could be a draw or you keep working your way through criteria until you get a winner. While a draw against Nebraska would have been an accomplishment it seemed like the team deserved a better outcome. Thankfully it worked out in the end.
