OT - Ahmir Mitchell Suspended

By "suspended" he's just going to be red shirted. Something that was likely anyway or at least not a lot of playing time was likely if he wasn't. Whether or not he can get his act together in the mean time before next fall remains to be seen. We got Eddie McDoom as our freshman WR who can potentially actually contribute on the field this year. What a name.
According to Harbaugh he's suspended indefinitely for undisclosed reasons.
Red-shirting him after being suspended indefinitely only means the infractions serious but the kid is talented enough that Harbaugh doesn't want him to lose a year ( or a major part of one) of eligibility .
Spin it anyway you like, but Ahmir being red-shirted has more to do with the reason he was suspended than anything else.

read that another commit/decommit from the Flood era is out until at least November with a knee... Malcom Pridgeon

That's not entirely true. You can transfer as much as you want but you have to sit a year.
Savage to Zona= RS
Savage from Zona to Pitt= one year sit out.

Good point. If you read the transfer rules, most players transfer under the "one time" player exception that allows transferring after sitting out a year. Now Savage was trying to transfer to Rutgers under a different rule that allows transfer due to hardship but was denied. I think what allowed Savage to transfer a second time was that he paid his own way at Pittsburgh. So it didn't involve a scholarship. You can also transfer a second time if you are taking off scholarship but I have never seen that.

I had never heard the off scholarship part. Why does the NCAA care about using a ship. On a kid that's not eligible?

To keep transferring schools more than once down.
The year Savage sat at Pitt and not on scholership he still used up a year of eligibility because he used up his red-shirt year at Arizona when he transferred there.
Tom used up 5 years of eligibility playing 3 years ( 2009, 2010 & 2013) of college ball.

Yes that's what I wrote.

I'm not saying it doesn't. I'm just saying from a football prospective it really means nothing this season. Unless he ends up getting kicked off or transfers but then obviously he didn't belong in the first place if that happens.

I think you could say athletes were, even into the 90's. It seems to all have changed now. The level of play across many sports is just too high now. To be successful, you are almost a professional, and have to treat it as such. Take lax for instance. The amount of time these kids spend on training and the level of play is just too high now. While I am sure there is fun being squeezed in when possible, the game has changed to the point where that is limited.
Definately agree.
Don't most Div 1 athletes adhere to an honor code?
For instance, do Ash's 21 year old players abstain from drinking alcohol during the season?

I would think there are serious limitations. Thursday nights are big in college. I'd be shocked if you saw athletes of any sports out during the week in season.
