I'm actually surprised no one else has posted this, but that had to be the worst rendition I have ever heard.
Probably cuz they were happy it was overI thought it was brilliant.
And the players I saw were cheering and pumping their fists at its conclusion.
Long? Yep. A whole three minutes longer than the standard rendition, which is fundamentally soulless. This was terrific.
Correct. It was soulful. She's literally the only person wherein that style feels authentic.
Awful . You saw players laughing
Agreed.I thought it was brilliant.

Of course you did.Awful . You saw players laughing
You're an a$$.Awful . You saw players laughing
Looks to me like a lot of folks reading this thread agree with me, as did a ton of the players and the fans at the game. I enjoyed a legend singing the anthem as if it actually meant something. Sorry.Skillet head, you should probably get over the fact that no matter her credentials as a phenomenal musician and singer, that was a ridiculous rendition and should've been half the time. Many ppl agree with these sentiments I'm sure. Come on now...
My guess is that they televised it because it was Aretha. Just a guess, though. On another note what determines when a national anthem actually gets shown on television? I didn't see it for tonight's game in Indianapolis . Not sure if the Cowboys anthem was broadcasted, wasn't near the tv at that point. Heck, most postseason games don't telecast the anthem.
One thing that determines it is Aretha Franklin singing it.On another note what determines when a national anthem actually gets shown on television?
A typical NFL game has about one hour of commercials, and people are complaining about a long version of the National Anthem, sung by America's greatest living soul singer (and maybe just greatest overall), on Thanksgiving Day? Get over it, people. It was HUGE!
Beautiful rendition . . . in Detroit . . . Motown . . . by the Queen of Soul
Sarcasm? This was a brilliant moment staged by the network, and beautifully delivered by Aretha Franklin. I loved seeing the players fist pumping for her. No doubt they, like the crowd knew they just whitnessed a truly special performance.
I loved it! Bravo!
Sarcasm?
When you get old, it takes longer to do most anything!Unusually I hate a change to the anthem. This I didn't mind but could have been much shorter and had same effect
I'm learning that. When you are a legend you get some rope but still to long. Forget TV, these guys have A job to do and want to play. We don't need the extended version. When you get old, it takes longer to do most anything!
Wonder what they'd say if you took a poll?I'm learning that. When you are a legend you get some rope but still to long. Forget TV, these guys have A job to do and want to play. We don't need the extended version.
It was on tv with a huge flag that covered the entire fieldOn another note what determines when a national anthem actually gets shown on television?
