MLB TV would be worthless to a Mets or Yankees fan who only wanted to watch Mets or Yankees games if they lived in Central/Northern NJ, correct?
As far as I know local market gets blacked out.

Investigating all the options, for a sports fan who wants BTN, the full complement of ESPNs (ESPN, ESPN, ESPNews, ESPNU) for college football, SNY for Mets, YES for Yankees, Fox Sports 1 and CBS Sports Network, seems going with a cable company (in my case Cablevision/Optimum) for 2 years, dumping them and switching to FIOS, rinsing/repeating is the best option.
High speed internet alone is at least $65/month through Optimum or FIOS.
YouTube package is $35/month, bringing total to $100/month.
Triple Play on FIOS for 2 year deal with a sports package for $90/month.
Cablevision/Optimum is $100/month on a 2 year deal.
There does not seem to be a less expensive option than $90-100/month?

SNY? BTN? All ESPN Channels?I cut the cord recently and don't regret it one bit.
Went with PS vue which is the best for sports imo..get everything I need but MSG.

really need a true a la carte service. Still a lot of unused channels in that package like disney and freeform. wonder if local option will have YES and SNY and MSG, which are must haves for local sports fans.
You're lying.havent had cable since 1988
havent missed a thing
everything is on the internet
total savings..... $30,000
wow...and you are an idiot....I have not had cable in foreverYou're lying.
In 1999 you were finding illegal online streams of RU football and basketball games that were televised on MSG Network or FSNY (remember that channel)? You're so full of crap.wow...and you are an idiot....I have not had cable in forever
back in 1998(I mis-typed 1988)I went to just over the air broadcasts as I didnt want cable bills
these days everythings on the internet
I have a dozen websites that I download episodes from any TV show I want,,,and view them when I choose without commercials
and I havent missed a single live sportscast ive wanted
For the past 8 years since I retired I live on a houseboat 3mi off Key West
I couldnt get cable if I WANTED it
but
I do get broadcast TV & internet...
This may be the better option since Youtube TV has most of the sports channels we want (with SNY left off for now). Plus we can watch its channels off the phone, tablet, TV, Chromecast without wifi (other than needing wifi for the initial Chromecast setup).

Then again borrow an account from a relative (or however you want to state that lol) so you can get Mets SNY games on NBC Sports app and the Yankees YES games on FOX Sports Go app through Google Chromecast. I also believe you can cast MSG games on MSG Go from your phone onto Chromecast as well.It is by far the best sports option right now. I thought about the delima of not having YES and SNY etc... , but I could live with just watching the select few games on UPN, PIX, FOX, NBC, ESPN. I really don't have time to keep up with baseball on a daily basis. As of now YouTubeTV will be my go to for 4 months of college football though.

SNY? BTN? All ESPN Channels?
With PS Vue, you can watch SNY on the NBC Sports app & have access to these TV Everywhere apps:No SNY, but I'm a yankee fan. It has YES and MLB network. As well as NBC Sports.
All ESPN channels..maybe not classic, but don't care about that. ESPN, ESPNU, ESPNews and ESPN2. Also has NFL network, BTN plus 4 "alternate" BTN feeds, SEC net, NBAtv, golf channel and Bien sports. Also has FS1 and FS2 and all Turner nets for NCAA tourney.
Also has all the major local channels in NY market..2 4 5 7.
Content providers don't want it, but some like CBS have their own video streaming subscription service (CBS All Access) just in case & to offset lost revenues & prepare for the future, but I don't think true a la carte is coming as soon as people want & when it comes, it likely won't be as cheap as people want once you add up all the different costs. SNY hasn't been available streaming anywhere, but just announced last month that Mets games (& pre & post game shows) will finally be available to stream on sny.tv & the NBC Sports app using a TV Anywhere login from your cable provider.
How much do you save a year & is it worth the hassle & inconvenience of constantly switching inputs on your TV, not having an on screen channel guide, not having a DVR or being able to pause, rewind, FFWD live TV, & having to sign up & drop BTN?
I think you are misinformed about the costs (billions) to build out fiber networks. There's a reason Google Fiber isn't everywhere, has slowed down deployments & is exploring & using alternatives to digging trenches in cities. Plus the costs to manage & maintain these fiber & content delivery networks.
Also, based on your example of cobbled together services, there doesn't appear to be much of a cost saving. Is it worth the hassle & inconvenience of constantly switching inputs on your TV, not having an on screen channel guide, not having a DVR or being able to pause, rewind, FFWD live TV, & managing a ton of other standalone apps?

Does anyone know if Mets games can be watched through the NBC Sports Network available through YouTube TV or PS Vue? Or are Mets games on SNY only available through the NBC Sports App?
On the NBCSN page, they do not list YouTubeTV or PS Vue as a provider to gain access to the App.

Not sure if you really answered the question (or perhaps you did).Mets games aren't available thru Vue (since they are on SNY and PIX 11) both of which Vue doesn't have.
I'd assume B/C Vue doesn't offer Mets games, you won't be able to view them on NBC app if u put Vue in as your provider.

So you can't access SNY via the NBC Sports Network offered by YouTubeTV or PS Vue--that's because your "TV provider" must offer SNY in order for you to have access through the NBC Sports Network App?
Got it. Thank you for answering twice. It's odd that BTN, which appears to be a cable stalwart, is aligned with YouTubeTV and PS Vue, but not SNY.NBC sports network is different than the NBC sports network app.
Because vue has the NBC sports network but not SNY, when u open the app and put in Vue as your provider, you will be able to watch NBC sports network and its offerings but not SNY nor it's offerings. Thus, no mets.
The reason these apps tell U to put in your provider is to know if your provider offers what u are trying to watch. Vue doesn't offer SNY.

We may have another workaround too. Thanks for that.I'd think b/c BTN is more of a national network as SNY is just a regional network...that's gonna be the case. More providers will offer that.
One legal workaround to watch Mets games is to download the MLB.tv app (think it's 100 for the year, probably cheaper now since almost halfway thru season). But if u r in NY area, games will be blacked out. Thus, you can download a VPN, some are free, others 3 or 4 a month, and that will recognize your IP address as somewhere different then NY/NJ..thus Mets games won't be blacked out.
I get YES network with sling tv. So Yankee fans are taken care of. Not sure about SNY.As far as I know local market gets blacked out.

Through which TV provider?Don't know if this would answer their question about SNY on NBC Sports App but I have the Amazon Fire Stick and I can watch SNY ON the NBCS app as well as the YES Network on the Fox Sports Go app. Unfortunately no BTN app for the Fire Stick.
