OT: Baylor Fires Art Briles

About f---ing time! Apparently, many school officials were very reluctant to fire Briles because they were afraid their brand-spanking-new sports complex/campus improvements were going to become a $300M ghost town. Before Briles got there, the football program was a complete joke. Oh well.....

Ken Starr should be next, ironic he turned the other cheek on sexual assault allegations.

So the reports he was fired weren't true?

I always knew something was rotten in Waco, but didn't think this was the path it would take

It shouldnt be surprising, but i think it is.

A successful program in recent years caving under pressure and firing a coach. Doesnt happen often.

Being a religious affiliated school (Southern Baptist), obviously added to the pressure to clean house. It was the right & only move.

Everyone assumed Baylor wouldn't do anything because of all of the money poured into the football program, and in return, the money the program is generating.

What people didn't consider was, as much revenue as a football program brings in, it accounts for a small percentage of a university's finances. Baylor couldn't risk a negative perception among prospective students and families, as it would have reduced applicants and enrollees. Just look at what happened at Missouri.

Good! I saw this confirmed on the NBC News site. Never liked his sneery personality even before all the rape and violence allegations, and he finally showed what his priorities were by ignoring them. His silence was damning. I'm hoping the reports that Ken Starr has been fired are true also. People like these are poison to anyone who cares about college sports.

Except they did risk it for years and the damage is already done, all the firings now are just damage control.

From an ESPN Report:

Actions by University administrators directly discouraged some complainants from reporting or participating in student conduct processes and in one instance constituted retaliation against a complainant for reporting sexual assault.

Ken Starr- good Christian and gargantuan hypocrite. Sexual misconduct and presidential politics is one thing, but inTexas, sexual misconduct and football is quite another. Good riddance. He will now most certainly endorse Hillary to bring it all full circle.

... and, now their program can return to irrelevance.

Perhaps other schools can start poaching their recruits.

(btw Ken Starr has already lost his job as President but will retain his title as the school's Chancellor).

Who is the "they" you are referring to? I haven't read the entire report, but nothing I've seen suggests the regents were aware of what was happening.

And even if they did know and this is damage control, my point holds. Someone has to go on the chopping block to at least give the appearance the school won't stand for this. Otherwise their enrollment, especially among females, would likely decline. Again, Missouri is an example of a school's bottom line suffering from turmoil on campus. Baylor doesn't want that, which is why people who brushed aside the idea of Briles being fired because of football revenue weren't seeing the big picture.

This case is as bad as Penn State.

Please no one take this as me comparing the crimes, because they're all horrible.

But, as far as it relates to college football and the NCAA, the Baylor case is worse than the Sandusky scandal. I'm curious to see if the NCAA is hesitant to hand out severe punishments here, and to UNC, in the wake of overreaching with Penn State. It'll be interesting to see how it's handled.

You may want to just sit this one out.

Only a PSU fan can say this. Shocking

Ha. Only if people would rather post memes and Briles/Franklin jokes instead of discussing things intelligently. If you don't think the Baylor case has more of a direct relation to college football and the NCAA and its rules and regulations, I'm not sure you and I can have that discussion.

As an outsider (thank goodness) all I see are two despicable athletic departments led by two coaches, one who is hopefully rotting in hell and another who has his ticket punched. I don't care to analyze which situation is worse. I'll leave that to PSU and Baylor fans to argue.
