OT: Best restaurant by NJ county

I heard this place is incredible! I just haven't had an occasion to go there. So for now I will say Buona Sera in Red Bank.

Buona Sera and Bistro a few blocks away are among the top restaurants I've been to in Monmouth County. Specifically for sushi, Shogun Legends also gets an honorable mention.

Absolutely....this thread is great...More importantly want to know what you think is better.....I am always looking for new places to try.
A Toute Heure is a must if you consider yourself a foodie. They also operate a raw bar/supper club in town.
Emmas is great for brick oven pizza (and other stuff). Actually pretty kid friendly if you go early.
Not downtown, but I also really love Triestina for old school Italian, old men in suits and professional waiters type place.

Lots of places I haven't tried yet either (Lidia's Cuban, and the new Greek place across from Emmas are on my list).

Absolutely NOT high-brow, but if you want gourmet burgers and great wings, The Committed Pig in Morristown stands alone. Easily, my favorite in Morris County.

There's also one in Manasquan on the corner of Main and Rt 71. The owner (or at least he said he was) lived across the street from me for a while.

Middlesex: I'll go with Catherine Lombardi's. The food and drinks are awesome. Bartenders are the best around.

Somerset. Wolfgang's in Somerville. A chain started be the long time head waiter at Peter Luger's. Awesome steaks and a wine list to match.

Also Italian Pantry for weekend brunch. While not a restaurant, riverside inn is known statewide for their burgers

The ebbitt room is one of my favorites..... my number one place is 410 bank street, but I could understand if some are not into their style.... I will always remember the time I went and tried a blacken fish for the first time, and was blown away.

All great choices! If you like blackened fish you should definitely hit up the Lobster House Coffee shop and order their blackened red fish. Like everything there it could never be considered fancy, but you'll get a huge piece of extremely fresh fish in a nice low key setting

Bergen County--Local Seasonal Kitchen in Ramsey.
I live walking distance from there but never had the opportunity to try it. I do know others who have been there and they all raved about it. I had no idea that it was closing, though.

The other local favorite here in Bergen/Ramsey is Varka.

Bistro is awesome. My old Belmar shore room mates own it along with Teak with David Bryan from Bon Jovi. Nicholas is a great restaurant. Just be prepared to open your wallet and leave hungry.

Gotta rep Burlington County, bordering Mercer County. Toscano's in Bordentown. Superb Italian and they added a dry-aged Steakhouse menu a few years ago. Had my first filet there on Friday and I dreamt about it last night.

Middlesex Cty---Frog and the Peach--whenever I visit NJ to take in a Rutgers game I try to make a reservation. Due Mari close second

my friends and I usually renew our football tickets in person at the RAC, then go to lunch in New Brunswick....trying not to repeat any places yet, we have gone to

Due Mari
stage left
clydz
steakhouse 85
frog & the peach
catherine Lombardi

for this year I was thinking either

Esquina Latina ............( there was a thread on this place months ago, a few here really seemed to like it)
Christophers.....(because I have been past that place a couple of times, know nothing about it)

what would any of you suggest?.... either of these two, or somewhere else in that area?.... doesn't have to be totally upscale, but at
least not totally dumpy as to scare off my prudish friends....me, I like dives sometimes....

Went to Wolfgang's a couple weeks ago. I had filet mignon and a half rack of ribs. The filet was good, but not great. The ribs were tremendous. I will go back again soon just for the ribs. I had wine and it was good. But I don't know crap about wine and just left the choice up to the waiter. He didn't kill me on the price, so far as I recall.

This. The filet isn't as good as a Morton's filet & Morton's apps, sides & desserts (crab cake, shrimp Alexander, creamed spinach, hashed brown potatoes, chocolate lava cake & chocolate mousse) are much better so at least you feel better about blowing your $ on an overpriced meal. The porterhouse is equally mediocre. The German potatoes were good but I was very disappointed the 2 times I went. The service was very iffy too.

Yep - I wouldn't go back just for the meat. But for the ribs, I would. Weird, for a steakhouse.

I've had filet's at Mortons, Ruth's Chris and others. And they've been good, most of the time, but not the best. Not even the second best.

Second best filet mignon I ever had was at a seafood place, believe it or not. It was called, I think, "Woody's Crab House" in MD. I don't even eat seafood, but was with a group that wanted to stop in there on the way to a house along Elk River. Anyway, I figured I'd be having chicken, but saw that had a filet so ordered it w/low expectations. It was unbelievably good. Super tender, super flavored. Should've ordered a second one.

That stood for many years, but then I was in DC a few years ago and my youngest and I stopped in the Capitol Grille just off the Mall. We both had filets and they were beyond good. So that's currently the best I've had.

FWIW, I've had the filet during lunch at Stage Left many times and it's almost always pretty good. Sometimes very good. Combined w/one of their typically delicious giant burgers and some potatoes au-gratin, and it makes for a good lunch. I recommend not eating the potato wedges that come with the burger though - you wouldn't want to overdo it.

Yeah, filet at Morton's is usually good, not great & not as good as better steak houses. I've had better. At Stage Left, try the special 4 steak tasting with the salt brick as it's great.
