Went down due to a non-contact knee injury during practice just a little while ago. If serious, there goes the Minnesota Vikings' season.

Seems very serious. Cops and an ambulance were called...very uncommon, even for for a serious leg injury..

Either an abundance of caution, or worse than a ligament tear, it seems.

Compound fracture and ACL tear.

Obviously out for the year but injuries like that can end a career.

I'm seeing snippets about the ACL tear and while the reported reactions of players would indicate a compound fracture or something else gruesome, I haven't seen compound fracture reported anywhere yet.

Your second statement is absolutely true though.

Great QB. I was surprised NFL draft was so harsh on him. Then again he seemed underbuilt for NFL. He was bigger than Pat White but still looked sleight in pads

Press conference coming at 5:00 PM ET should have about this. But here's what ESPN is saying so far:

"Bridgewater dropped back to pass during the drill, planted his foot and immediately went down. Trainers rushed to Bridgewater's side and began inflating an aircast, while the quarterback appeared to be holding his left leg.

Several players threw their helmets and shouted expletives as they scattered, while many simultaneously dropped to one knee in prayer. Moments later, a siren-blaring ambulance pulled into the team's Winter Park headquarters, stayed for about 10 minutes and then pulled away.

The nature of the injury was not immediately clear. Bridgewater was still on the practice field grass as the team's PR staff ushered reporters from the premises."

No confirmation from Vikes as to extent of injury. Who knows -- maybe it is just a knee.

Sure he broke our hearts (so, too, did that bogus ineligible receiver call). But I admired him greatly. He's done better than I thought in the NFL. I had him on my third all-opponent team behind Derek Carr and Blake Bortles.

Knowing your season in a matter of 2 seconds just became worthless and you are playing for a paycheck. Nothing more.

Just terrible news. He crushed our dreams but I root for him. Great college QB and he was really coming into his own in the NFL. Wish him the best of luck for a speedy recovery.

Horrible news. At least he has a teammate that has gone through the whole thing, so hopefully he can lean on him for advice and support. The good thing for his recovery is that he's young, only 23, so if he puts in the time he should be 100% and ready-to-go next summer.

Think it had more to do with seeing the gruesome injury than their upcoming season.
