OT: Dodger Stadium

@JayDogSmooth - what's your take on FSU third basemen Cam Smith who the Cubs just drafted in the first round? Was going to post in the All Things ACC thread, but since it's baseball, thought it would be better here.

He's got pop, but takes at bats off
Good glove
I think he's more talented than Tibbs, who was drafted one spot ahead at 13, but both are legit

Absolutely. I'm actually driving to Pittsburgh on Friday to take my two sons to PNC Park. They asked if I could start taking them to stadiums every year like my dad used to take me. I can't wait to share this experience with them every summer.
#2 on my list. Great park.

I went to Great American (Reds) for a game last year. Nice ballpark. Felt on the smaller side. My company had an outing are we had the party deck. Caught a foul ball. Nice river and bridge views, but not as cool as Pittsburgh (nothing is). Also, nice entertainment area right across the street for pre/post-game.

Made it again to Coors Field in 2002. First time since the last '90's, but still a good time and great pre-game scene. Prior year did T-Mobile Park (Seattle). Nice stadium but was kind of weird with the football stadium next door. We didn't really pre-game in the area but seemed a little sketchy on the one side.

Here are my 10 favorite ballparks:

1. Dodger Stadium
2. PNC Park
3. Old Tiger Stadium
4. Camden Yards
5. Fenway Park
6. Old Comisky Park
7. Great American Ballpark
8. Yankee Stadium #2
9. Citizens Bank Ballpark
10. Truist Park.

**. I have not been to Petco or AT&T, which everyone says are awesome.

Been to Dodger Stadium once a long, long time ago. Highlights were Johnny Bench hit a HR to beat LA and bumped into Harvey Korman literally.

3 days later I'm waiting for an elevator at the St Francis in SF. Doors open and there's Johnny Bench. I was too shocked to tell him I saw the HR in LA. We get to the lobby and there's Pedro Borboun and a couple other Reds. They were staying there.

I remember about 15 years ago going to PNC park with a friend and they allowed tailgating in a parking lot. I'm not sure if it was a lot owned by the stadium or just something near it. It was under a bridge and there was a football-esque atmosphere to the day, lots of folks drinking in the lot. Lots of folks drinking in the bars near the stadium.

It's a shame there's not more of this feel to baseball during the summer because we are in the doldrums of sports right now. I would never want to shorten the baseball season, I think there's something special to how long it is. But I wish there was some way to make it more exciting at this time of the year, and get more eyes on it. A little All-Star break tournament or something. Could there be a way to earn a playoff bye by having the best record mid year? I don't know.

I know that makes no sense and is not feasible in any way and would only hurt the better teams. But man, this is the driest moment of the year sports wise, it's a shame there can't be a good reason for us all to watch baseball and get excited about it. Playoffs are great but they are far, far too overshadowed by college football and the NFL.

Pittsburgh is tremendous
Coors Field is vastly underrated

You're showing your age, sir. There hasn't been a major leagu game played at Ebbets Field since 1957 and at the Polo Grounds since 1963.

I know right? My uncle took me to Ebbets when I was a little kid. I think I was more interested in the hot dog and soda than the game.He was a big Brooklyn fan. He and my aunt had no children of so he took all the nephews to baseball and NFL games. I was to the Polo Grounds twice when the Mets played there.

My late mom would tell me stories about going to Dodgers games. Along with Duke, Pee Wee, etc. she saw Warren Spahn pitch in a game. "He had this crazy wind-up..."

Whatever it was, it worked -- he won 373 games. I remember how sad I was as a 7-year old when he pitched a complete game two-hit shutout of the Yankees in the 4th game of the 1958 Series to give the Braves a 3-1 lead. But the Yankees then won three straight to reclaim the World Series championship.

I will now bore everyone with my Ebbets Field story:

The Yankees and Dodgers played in the 1952 Series. Because it was an even-numbered year, the Series opened in the National League park. In those days, the visiting team got to work out in the home team's park the day before the first game.

Yankees manager Casey Stengel said to Mickey Mantle, his 22-year old star, "You're going to be playing right field, so come out to right field with me." Stengel pointed out to Mantle how unusual the right field wall was; it angled out from the playing field, then went straight up, and then had a screen on top -- and a ball off the screen was in play. So a ball off the wall could have many different caroms. Stengel threw a baseball again and again so that Mantle would get used to the way the ball might come off the wall depending on where it hit. He worked the wall from the foul pole to right center, pointing out the dead spots in the wall.

Mantle was amazed. "Mr. Stengel, how did you learn all this?" Stengel replied, "I used to play right field right here in Ebbets Field for the Brooklyn Dodgers! Did you think I was born old?"
