OT: Dogfish head celebrating 20 years of brewing

Good for them, and they'll always be known for being at the forefront of the craft beer explosion. That said, I've soured on them in recent years. They've always been a bit wacky in what they'll try and historically they've been hit or miss. Last few years I've had many more misses than hits.

I do have a stash of 120 minutes in a hidden dark place in the basement though.

We vacation in Bethany Beach Delaware, hitting the Dogfish Head Brewpub in Rehobeth always a treat. My favorite East Coast Brewer by far.
 
I tasted Higher Math. It was ok. Definitely a different taste to it. I have a bottle of Forte by Dogfish Head and I am hoping to get "Lunch" by Maine Beer Company this weekend.
 
I've taken a bunch of tours of the brewery. Fun stuff down in Delaware. We picked up a pack of Higher Math and a pack of Pennsylvania Tuxedo. Saving them for the holidays, I think. The Higher Math is pretty expensive (for beer), like the 120.
 
Huge DogFish fan. My favorites are 75, 61, and 60. Have not had Higher Math or the Pennsylvania Tuxedo but I have some Fort in the beer fridge for this weekend.
 
One of my favorite breweries. Their Bourbon barrel aged IPA, Burton Baton is in my top 5 beers.

Planning a PA/NJ/Del Brewery tour for the summer, probably going to end it there.

I've never had it, but I have not heard good things from those who have. Some have compared the taste to cherry cough medicine.

Big fan as well. I'd say their 90 is my favorite IPA of any brewer (their 60 isn't bad either). The 120 scares me but I would like to try someday (might need some to get through the Maryland game).
 
Huge craft beer fan, can't agree more their classics like 60 and 90 are great of course. ....you guys ever have some 3 Floyd's?? I can get it if there are any beer traders I keep wanting Heady Topper I know you can get that in Philly or NY from time to time.

Believe it or not, Texas has made some headway into the craft brewery scene. Jester King in Austin make some of the best sour beers around. Prairie Artisans in OK also makes some highly rated stouts. Always open to trading.

Dogfish deserves credit for leading the highly hopped IPA movement. But they also deserve blame for that too. It is very frustrating to walk into a bar with 8 craft taps and discover that 7 are IPA's and the 8th is a flavored pumpkin beer.

thats disappointing to hear!

Love the 60 and 90, and the 120 is one of the better beers I have had.

I hear there is a new brewery opening up down here in Cape May County but can't find the details on where and when. Its great to see them opening up everywhere. Before prohibition closed them all this is the way it was, there were local brew pubs all over the place.

I don't think of the Dogfish beers as being ultra hoppy, I feel it's more balanced then others. I think of the ultra hoppiness is more of a West Coast style, started by Anchor, Sierra Nevada and taken up a notch by Stone, Lagunitas and others.

The 60 has always been my default purchase when not trying new beers. The 90 is great too but doesn't seem to be carried everywhere. Recently I've been on a Ballast Point sculpin / grapefruit sculpin kick.. it's the IPA that's launching an IPO.

Going off on a tangent, but Ballast Point is the latest craft brewery to sell to a mega-brewer (Constellation, I believe) for something like $1 billion.

So far I don't see much evidence of any of these mergers affecting the quality of craft beer, which is a good thing.
 
Dogfish is what got me into Craft Beers. Huge Fan. For Craft Beer Fans Cloverleaf Tavern in Caldwell is a can't miss.

Yes the 90 is excellent. The 120 is very good but my advice is enjoy by itself and don't add it into an afternoon or evening of drinking. One because it's strong and will sneak up on you but also because you want to take your time and enjoy it - don't drink it at the speed/rate you might the 60 or 90.

Oh interesting. I hadn't been following the news and last I read Ballast Point was seeking to launch an IPO. $1 billion is a pretty crazy valuation. I'm not saying Constellation is overpaying or underpaying, I have no idea what Ballast Point is worth, but it makes me wonder what Dogfish would be worth in a similar deal.

Agree on the beer fest. As for the above,

Great call on Aviator - love Hogwild, Octoberbeast, and Frostnipper especially. Also a big fan of the Smokehouse.

Personally, would not send any of the others to someone - not much of a fan / think there are way better options out there

After spending lots of time in Germany, I kind of enjoy the dunkle at Bombshell.

Have you tried the new "Nitro Wiggo" at CBC. Take one of the best beer and steps it up a level.
