Found dead yesterday, he was 54. I grew up watching "Eight Is Enough" and Adam Rich was probably the show's biggest star, and also another child casualty of Hollywood. Sad

OK I'm in that age group too and that is a shame about Adam Rich. But if you think that he was that show's biggest star, you're not even close. Willie Aames was on the cover of every magazine and a much bigger draw than Adam Rich.

“I think he’s why the show was a big success,” Van Patten, who died in 2015, said of his former co-star in a 2011 interview with Stephen J. Abramson for the Television Academy Foundation.

“People loved him! [Fans] named a child Nicholas and everything because of him,” he added. “He was cute, and he was a good actor. He was very natural.”

"The show was modeled on the life of syndicated newspaper columnist Tom Braden, a real-life parent with eight children, who wrote a book by the same title." (wiki)

I didn't watch the show but recall a lot of big families locally in that era (especially Irish -- like Kennedy fam)

Cause of death not given, but the poor man battled drug problems most of his life. One of the sisters on the show suffered from agoraphobia and OD'd on a mix of painkillers and another drug.

And one of the other sisters developed a bad drug problem, too.
