OT: Good thing we are a basketball school, never saw 6-0 coming

Pikiell has the guys playing great D-especially with the rebounding. He has somehow managed to land 3 big players (we have three 7-footers? on the roster?-we haven't had a big guy for the most part since Roy Hinson). The guys seem to fit his system-and play hard so they are likable thus getting the fans involved.

Last time they were 6-0 was for the 1975-1976 season!

They were behind and were able to make a comeback and the crowd was really into it.

Before the trolls come out, yes, everyone is fully aware that they haven't played anyone good yet, but we were one of the worse teams last year, we wouldn't have been 6-0 with last years coaching staff and players.

What exactly am I wrong, about?

wrong because RU hoops had the worst perception and was the worst Power 5 team in all college sports. Hoops also does not get a fraction of the support, financial, facility, institutional, etc that the football program has had for years. Its not an easy situation to turn around RU hoops, yes football came off rough times but it wasnt the Shea era, while with RU hoops they have been in Shea era for almost a decade

I will say this....it was alot of baloney talked by Barchi and others that money was no issue when Ash was hired. It most certainly mattered in terms of hiring assistants.

Not denying any if this. Fair points.

But thru 6 games, of course Pikiell should have a better record than Ash. look at the team's he's played. MUCH easier.

It's foolish to look at Ash's record 2-9, and Pikiell's record, 6-0..and say he's the better hire. way too early, in my opinion.

6-0 is the best they can be .... Last year we would be like 2-4

BBALL should get a fraction of what football gets.. they have 1/10th the number of players and staff as football.

It's early in the season, but Pikiell has moved the need more in 6 games than it has been moved in the last three seasons.
In an interesting reversal of roles, RU and MInnesota duke it out for last place in the B1G last year, and they are both currently 6-0, while Michigan State is currently 4-3--but Michigan State has played #2 Kentucky, #10 Arizona, and #20 Baylor-accounting for their 3 losses. Think RU will get a few upsets this year in conference play.

Rutgers spends the least money on hoops in the entire country for a Power 5 school...and thats been for like 20 years now, you get what you pay for. Its not so much comparison football to basketball, it the comparison of what other schools are doing. Others schools are investing in both sports, it looks like it might change now but up until this year RU invested in one and neglected the other, actually let it rot. So there is your answer....its not easier to turn basketball around when its working under those conditions

yes it is early I agree with you, the issue with Ash is that this season has been a total disaster by any metric. He may get it done but its only faith at this time, you cannot point to one thing tangible that got better this year as opposed to last year. Pikiell on the other hand has already improved the teams intensity, defense, rebounding, effort by leaps and bounds. They may only win 4-6 conference games but he has vastly improved a program that was in a huge abyss last year with 40 losses in its last 47 games heading into this year...so a much worse situation that Ash inherited.

Rutgers is now #162 in the Ken Pomeroy rankings having beaten Molloy (DII), Drexel (#270), De Paul (188), Niagra (307), North Texas (291) and Hartford (331).

I never said Ash doesn't have issues. my original point, which I was told is WRONG, was hoops rebuild was much easier. and has been easier to this point of time.

I agree..pikiell has very much improved the team. how much of that, though, is the fact our old coach was terrible??

He left good talent, but wasn't a very energetic coach. again, to my point, Pikiell had the pieces to at least be competitive.

Once Grant went down in football..they really didn't have great pieces.
