Link is a dead end.
The fact that a worthless douchebag like Kellen Winslow Jr. hated him is enough to let me know he was doing a fine job of removing the cancer from Tampa's locker room exactly as he was tasked. The Glazers are just spineless owners unwilling to admit that was his mission.
In the end, he shouldn't have left. 2012 and where RU could be now...PSU may not have recovered so fast (though I still believe this season was a mirage for them)...
Doubt it. Hard to pass up coaching at the highest level of your profession and the pay day.Would he have stayyed if the B1G was a definite?
Hold on, in 2017 leaving a coaching gig in the B1G East to go to the NFL is a no brainer. In hindsight sure... but in 2012 leaving a coaching gig in the big east to go to the NFL is a no brainer.
Yep, that team was a mess and he had to clean it out. He had to leave, 2004 and 2010 were gnawing at him.In the end, he shouldn't have left. 2012 and where RU could be now...PSU may not have recovered so fast (though I still believe this season was a mirage for them)...

His college-like approach was never a good fit for the NFL. Even though he had seemingly plateaued here, imagine where we could potentially be now had he stayed. It would have been interesting to see what he could have done with the B1G behind him. Worst case, we would never had experienced the Flood 'error' and would be that much further along right now.
Nick Saban is another that would get an NFL HC position 1 minute after expressing interest in returning to the NFL.Urban Meyer could coach in the NFL tomorrow if he wanted to.
Some coaches are better in college, where micromanagement is more impactful.
But in the NFL, it's all about the players, and they know it.
Name any lasting, successful coach in the NFL and you can be sure he had hall of fame players on his roster.
In college, you can pick on that true freshman safety or undersized lineman all day.
In the NFL, even that nickel corner was on the All-American watch list.
Al, he had Darrelle Revis playing short zone in a Cover-2.While that is true, his style is not dissimilar to that of Bill Belicheck, who admittedly had Brady and others. Schianos biggest predicament was that he never had a quarterback and it's tough to win without one. Also MRSA took away his best free agent acquisition. A really unique set of circumstances which doomed him. If he had been given one more year, and a chance to draft Bridgewater, he would have done so and would have shown big progress year three, and away Tampa would have gone. I think he can succeed in the NFL, given the opportunity. It appears he's learned from his past mistakes.
If he stayed we would be as good as Michigan State, Minnesota and Iowa. We were headed in that direction. When he left, the 5* and 4* players were coming. Schiano got a boatload of kids into the NFL. Some of the players weren't even highly regarding recruits. Obviously he was doing something right.

He of Revis Island fame was reduced to coverage responsibility Flood once trusted to a backup RB (Justin Goodwin) for a game.
That's borderline criminal.
Yeah, it doesn't work for a lot of college guys. There are a few success stories (Carrol, Coughlin and those guys started in the NFL before taking college jobs and returning to the NFL), but by and large it doesn't work out. When he coached Tampa Bay he was despised by fans and players alike. The players used to have team meetings he wasnt invited to attend. As a Rutgers guy I tried to ignore the boos and bad comments, The NFL just isnt his forte....
you guys make a lot of excuses for the man. What many finally saw was how much of a prick he was. He was not a nice guy behind the cameras at all or to those that couldn't benefit him in any way
he wasn't even a good coach really, he's better directing a program than coaching one.

Not hexed. Bad ownership.Since Gruden left in 2008 Tampa has had 4 coaches in 8 years. Its become one of those jobs that are hexed

?? Ask Eric LeGrand how much of a prick Schiano was. For the first weeks after Eric got hurt Greg slept in Eric's hospital room....
Why the hell do any of you care if he is a prick or not. What does that have anything to do with anything.
It's a completely irrlevant discussion point.
