It was 13 years ago today when Cubs fan Steve Bartman interfered with Moises Alou on a pop fly ball down the left field line. The play helped the Marlins score 8 runs in the 8th, preventing the Cubs from a berth in the World Series.

The infamous play occurs at 2:50 of the video:

Would love to see the Cubs win for Bartman alone. A whole city turned against the guy over nonsense and something most of us would have truthfully done. I would love to see him come out of hiding if/when the Cubs win and see him be forgiven and celebrated over this craziness - he deserves it!

The famous photo shows 6 other fans right next to him that also were reaching for the ball. Total BS that was mostly the responsibility of the media. Nobody got on base on the play, and the same batter then hit a grounder to the shortstop (with a charity hop), that was booted. Then the pitchers gave up 8 runs in the inning. The Cubs were up 3-0 in the eighth. WHEN the Cubs win, there needs to be two celabrations, one for the team and one for the return (after 13 years of hiding) of one of the Cubs biggest fans, Steve Bartman. Can you imagine if that was you that essentially lost your way of life over a foul pop-up?

Last night I watched that play about 25 times on the MLB network. In the stands it is the fans ball; in the field of play it is the fielders ball. that ball was definitely in between.

If the ball hits the foul line it si a fair ball; however if the ball is between the field of play and the fans zone, what is the call?

people need to stop killing this guy. anyone see the 30-30 (or whatever the show was) on how his life was ruined over this thing. People are just f in mean and hateful and a bunch of hypocrites.

30 for 30 was good for the most part, but should have been about 30 minutes shorter at least - lot of junk filler. For this thing to have spiraled into what it did is absolutely amazing (and sad) - this should have maybe been a 1 night news story - not a 13 year nightmare.
