OT: Huge win for Wrestling!

I believe there are two rankings. One for dual meets and one for tournaments. Wisky was ranked higher in duals because they were thought to have a stronger lineup top to bottom. RU was ranked higher in tournaments because the 2 hammers AA and NS would score big points for finishing at or near the top of their weight class.

What does "wins by criteria" mean?

Team score was tied at 16-16 after the last match. Criteria is the tiebreaker system. I believe the first criteria is total points scored in match and we had outscored them.

I think the announcers said # of bout wins and then pins comes before total match points. But what do I know. I just started watching wrestling 3 years ago.

Great match tonight - if you’ve never gone it’s a great atmosphere too!

We won on total points last night 56 to 50. In the tie breaker system we were determined the winner by item H below.

In dual-meet competition, if the teams have identical scores, the following tie-breaking system shall be used to determine the winner:

a. The team whose opposing wrestlers or team personnel has been penalized the greater number of team points for flagrant misconduct or unsportsmanlike conduct shall be declared the winner.

b. The team whose opposing head coach has been penalized the greater number of team points for coach misconduct shall be declared the winner.

c. The team whose opposing wrestlers were penalized the greater number of match points for unsportsmanlike conduct during a match shall be declared the winner.

d. The team having won the greater number of matches (including forfeits) shall be declared the winner.

e. The team having accumulated the greater number of points for falls, defaults, forfeits, or disqualifications shall be declared the winner.

f. The team having the greater number of points for technical falls shall be declared the winner.

g. The team having the greater number of points for major decisions shall be declared the winner.

h. The team having the greater number (total match points) of first point(s) shall be declared the winner.

i. The team having the greater number of points for near-falls shall be declared the winner.

j. The team having the greater number of takedowns shall be declared the winner.

k. The team having the greater number of reversals shall be declared the winner.

l. The team having the greater number of escapes shall be declared the winner.

m. The team whose opponent has been penalized more often for stalling will be declared the winner.

n. The team whose opponent has been warned more often for stalling will be declared the winner.

o. The team whose opponent has the greater number of points for all other infractions (i.e. false starts) shall be declared the winner.

p. If none of the above resolve the tie, a flip of a disk will determine the winner.

Upon determining the winning team by use of the tiebreaking system, a single team point shall be added to the prevailing team. The method of recording the score in breaking team ties shall be the score followed by the letter of the criterion that broke the tie.

I know more about nuclear fusion, which is 0, then I do about wrestling. I was invited to the game, I was corrected because it is called a match, and sat 2nd row mat side. 2nd time in my almost 70 years on this round rotating sphere that I have attended a wrestling match. These wrestling fans are f'in crazy with passion! Congrats to Coach Goodale and the team. I enjoyed myself thoroughly and am now a fan of wrestling.

Last night they said Sunday was sold out

Almost. They said almost sold out.

OSU is wrestling vs Princeton in Princeton today of anyone wants to get a sneak preview

@gunboat that's how I fell in love with it. The fans around you are always willing to answer questions & explain things too.

According to the ticket site, the only section with tickets are the 2 upper corners of the 300s and dead center of the student section.

It's not a hard sport to learn, my wife learned the basics in one year. Although she needs a refresher course 1st match every year, she's come to love it more than football. I suspect it has something to do with us being competitive in wrestling as opposed to football where we're completely inept.

That's exactly how I sell it to non-wrestling fans!

What she really likes about it is you're guaranteed to see a couple of really good matches. As each individual match is it's own little entity within a team concept. Plus we have a boisterous crowd, she loves that.

For me, every night they're going against the best in the country, it's weird seeing a ranked number next to every opposing team and somehow we're competing with them and winning some. Football you see a ranked number and you just know we're dead to rights. I can still remember when Lehigh would come in here and just pound us year after year.

Gotta love Goodale, some moron was on twitter last night tweeting directly at him complaining that he needs to get more agressive with refs even if it costs a the team a point. He actually responded and pointed out that would have resulted in a loss.

What moron goes on twitter and goes directly at a coach not named Ash? J/k about that too.

Yeah it's a bunch of statistics tallied up as tie breakers - understandable only to those "Of the Mat".

I'd replace P with the coaches being forced to wrestle in street clothes.

I was happy to explain to @MrsScrew how heavyweight wrestling was invented and the related meatball sub break between rounds 2 and 3 for the modern heavyweights.

I like when they break out the steel cage after intermission.

Little Known Fact: The reason college wrestling is contained in the circle on the mat is that there is a rule that allows a wrestler to use a folding chair if it is close enough to grab. That's why chairs are kept out of and away from the circle. #NOWYOUKNOW

@MrsScrew (who apparently is running for Queen of Rutgers Wrestling too) and I and a bunch of folks were there. Great match.

BTW anyone in NJ who wrestles not of Italian descent? LOL Seems everyone on the RU team's last name ends in a vowel LOLOL.

Great job by the guys.

Greco-ROMAN wrestling, right? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
