It's from the '80s, and from a lameness standpoint there may be equally bad videos, but you'd be hard pressed to find one that's worse. Thoughtful responses only so we can all appreciate the worst efforts ever. I was embarrassed for them and actually had to stop watching before the end. I liked their music, too. But damn...

You gotta cut 'em some slack - this was done right around the time MTV got started, and a lot of the music videos back then were..............well, I'll be nice and just say "strange".

How about this one, which basically derailed Billy Squier's career:

and yet it was his biggest charted single making it to #15

I don't think it derailed his career. He was what he was and wasn't very original. His career dried up because he didn't have much to offer after his initial success not because of a silly video

Remake of the the song Skeletons recorded by "inflatable boy clams" 30 years after they first released it..Not a video, but the worse song and creepiest live recording ever. I heard this song on a Princeton radio station a few weeks ago and could nto believe it was an actual song...I was wrong.

I am so pissed off after just 35 seconds that I now have to go out and beat someone up.

I am mindful of that, and yet it doesn't placate me. There were creative minds back then that could have done more with that. Even if they couldn't, it doesn't matter because I started the thread and I get to make the rules.

I've actually read a number of sources that state this video alienated him from his fanbase, which was heavy metal oriented. The view of him prancing around in tight pastel colors, well, that didn't go over real well with the metal-studded leather wearing crowd.

I guess the rise of video "music" was ineveitable with the evolution of technology, I think overall it's had a pretty negative impact on the quality. Imo, music is very much an audio thing, not a visual thing. I go to hear concerts not necessarily to see them. I'm not trying to be above it all, but the quality has been generally lacking for quite some time. The path to success now seems to be make some overproduced sound in the studio and then make some elaborate video. For a long time, the path was get out and play live for audiences, tour and improve your chops. It's a different world now.

I used to think Journey was cool, until I got MTV and saw this video. Then I realized they were a bunch of dorks.

This video is so weak it is unreal, but it isn't totally embarrassing. There are actually comedic elements to it, it's that bad. But there's a girl who kind of keeps your attention throughout, wondering why she's even there with a bunch of guys playing air guitar/drums in foosball shirts by the river. The Judas Priest video is just plain lame to the point of embarrassment. They were a heavy metal band doing that weak-ass crap, whereas Journey was always (IMO) a weenie band.

This one? I mean the director takes the lyrics way too literally, and then there are random ninjas for some reason.

Then again many 80's music videos had random ninjas for some reason, it may be so bad, it is actually good. You decide.

^^^^ ttfp game against Rutgers is not a white out this year...it is actually a Joe out

And my nominee for worst video is this turd

this is the one that started the rumor of David and Mick bumping uglies. I believe it took some of the pressure off billy Squire for the worst video at the time

Yep. The Boy Clams at least did everything right to get it purposely wrong, and controlled their own destiny in that respect. Judas Priest (and Journey, for that matter) had actual directors and marketing people trying to help make them look good and craft an image. In the conception stage of music video production, typically four or five video directors/producers will be solicited for ideas, and the label and band will weigh in on which concept they like best. Then that director/producer gets green-lit for the production, and also gets paid.

Knowing that this is essentially how it works, it is so painful to see something go so wrong.

For what it is worth, Squier himself blamed the video for derailing his career

“When I saw the video, my jaw dropped,” Squier told them. “It was diabolical. I looked at it and went, ‘What the f- -k is this?’ ”

There is a great book called "I want my MTV " that has a whole chapter on the video

I respectfully submit Warrant - Down Boys

That drop to the knees thing is comical

They dont come more 80s or more cheesy than this one

The cheesiness of these videos is what made them amazing. There were hundreds of videos this bad during the early MTV years.
