OT: Home Audio/Video Discussion

I'd do it with an HDMI cable assuming that option exists. Wired is better than wireless for audio quality and problem-free performance, although wireless has been catching up over time.

I use a BlueSound Node to stream high bitrate audio to my sound system, and it can work via Bluetooth, Wifi or a wired connection, or combinations of those. I found the wireless connections a bit less reliable while the wired connection is consistently better sounding and 100% reliable.

However my results are with decent quality tower speakers; the audio quality with a soundbar may not be high enough to distinguish any audio quality difference between a Bluetooth or wired connection.

BTW, while Bluetooth and Wifi are both wireless technologies, the quality of your Wifi is a non-factor in how well a Bluetooth connection will work in your house (unless there's some arcane interference issue, which seems extremely unlikely).
Thank you

My turn to take the plunge. Looking to upgrade the current tv, moving up to a 77in from 65in. Use a lot of YouTube TV quad box during the CFB season and want bigger boxes lol.

LG C3 vs LG C4 are the likely options. I'm not a fan of Samsung anymore. Sony Bravia 8 was the other option but reading reviews I think LG might better. Plus I already have 1 LG in the house and I'm satisfied with it. Two issues with LG are the remote sensitivity mentioned above and sometimes to update/download apps you have to be logged into your LG account. That can be a pain at times. They log you out and it can hang when trying to get back into the login screen and they make you change the password every 3months which is crazy.

Any big difference between C3 and C4? I know some of you above have these models so have you been satisfied/happy after some time with it. I'm guessing being so new reliability shouldn't have been a problem. I'm hoping the compatibility with Bose will be better with the LG than the Samsung. Have a soundbar connected to the current Samsung by optical cable and at times it can be finicky not using the soundbar connection on with the tv when I turn it on and using the tv speakers instead. I have to unplug/replug the tv to reset and then it works.

Any thought/opinions on these models or any others you preferred?

that sums it up. A few little annoyances but I'm looking to get another small LG. So far so good with my LG C3. The YouTube TV 4 game split screen is about as awesome as it can get for casually following multiple games. I also use it for news sometimes. I wish the audio selection changed faster though, but I assume that is more of a YouTube thing then a tv thing. I don't think there is any meaningful difference between the two unless you need 144Hz for gaming.

Thanks for posting this. I also have come to the same conclusions about Samsung (most of my TVs have been Samsung for 20+ years) and Sony Bravia and plan to go with one of the LG's as well. Been looking at the C4 in 65" or 77". I wish they made a 70" since that would have worked better in my room.

My Samsung is 8 years old and been thinking about changing it. With all that tariff talk I’m like I’m gonna pull forward any bigger ticket purchases I was going to make anyway in the near future if the deals look good enough. Even goods that might not have imported parts could go up just because companies want to increase their margins, no different than this recent inflation spike.

I should correct my post above. It’s not an optical cable that connects the Bose Soundbar it’s HDMI through that ARC port that turns it on when the tv turns on. It’s been finicky since day 1. It’ll turn on the soundbar but use the tv speakers instead and won’t let me change the audio input through the menu. So I have to unplug and replug to reset it. I hope the compatability with LG is better.

I tend to think I’ll end up going with the C4. I’m okay with 65 but my YouTube TV quad box usage is what’s pushing me to the larger size. If not for that I don’t know that I’d increase the size.

Went down to Best Buy to check out the different models. Assuming they've set the tvs under similar settings, there is definitely a noticeable difference a little in clarity and for sure brightness. It's easy to see the difference when they're side by side or close to each other. G4 model was looking damn good. If I was looking for a 65in, I would've probably went with that one. The larger sizes for that model are at price points beyond what I'm willing to pay but it's a beautiful picture. The C4 looks very nice too though and imo better than the Bravia models I was looking at and more than good enough overall.

I ordered the C4 from Costco. Just FYI for those who may buy a tv from Costco and get alerts for transactions on your credit card. It may seem like you got double charged for that All State protection plan (it's actually free but gets charged on the original invoice and then discounted immediately) but you haven't been. I got 1 alert for the total transaction for the tv and tax which is the price I expected to pay. Awhile later I got another alert being charged for the All State plan which is free and I thought was just part of the initial transaction So it gives the impression you've been charged extra for the Allstate plan I called customers service to find out and they said yea it is confusing but it's just the way it's processed but in the end should end up being the total bill that you expected.

Congrats on the new TV. Should be great.

A couple days ago, I almost ordered a TCL 98” TV. It wouldn’t be close to the quality and brightness, and so forth, of the LG OLED I got earlier in the year. And, other than the remote issues, the LG has been great. But the lure of a 98” TV for what seems like bargain basement prices was calling to me.

I backed away from it, for now at least. But you raised a good point with the possibility of (insane) tariffs. Might be better to get the larger TV now, even though I don’t really have a need for it. Could stick the LG in my bedroom.

Tariffs could be just bluster…or not. No way to know so I just did it and get it out the way and it doesn’t matter anymore. Changed family phones too for the same reason, was going to be done some time soon anyway so pull it forward.

I looked online and that is a pretty good deal for that size. It’s still a 4K big ass screen regardless lol.

You’ll have this at home. 😉😂

I got the 65” Samsung Q72D from Costco, with the AllState insurance, and couldn’t be happier. It’s a QLED, so not as precise as the LG C4 OLED, but at $800, it’s a tremendous value, and does provide an excellent picture though not as good as the OLEDs.

Right?

First thing my kid and his GF said to me when I came home with the 83" LG was "why's it so small?". It was replacing a 75" TV in our family room. Damn brats. 🙂

I might swing by a Best Buy and check one out, see what it looks like in person.

I’ve had this TV for 6 months, best tv I’ve owned at a great price too.

That looks like a good one and comparable to the C4. Rtings gives it a somewhat better review too. If not for my experience with Samsung and compatibility issues with my soundbar and lack of app and OS updates from Samsung I would’ve looked at it as an option too.

I did a big home renovation last year and put all my audio visual equipment in my basement in one spot. Huge pain in the ass but well worth it. No wires anyplace upstairs. Super clean and a single simple remote for the whole tv. Ceiling speakers controlled from my phone as well. It’s like a magic show.

I have a Samsung frame tv bc I like the look of the artwork when it’s not in use and it sits super flat on the wall bc of the unique mount.
Do you still like the Samsung Frame? It seems a bit pricy for the tech generation but the matte finish and simple look for artwork and photos seems cool. Thinking of getting a Black Friday smaller one

Yes. Still like it. Watching it right now. My construction guy bought one once he installed it and then my brother in law bought one. Who wants a black box sitting on their wall. Having artwork on your wall is great and having it matte looks sweet. I agree that it’s not the best tv picture but not bad. I like the other aspects of it to have the tradeoff. One caveat. The remote is a little weird but I got used to it. They went super simple with only a few buttons.
