Got a couple of DM's' re. the ACC situation so I'll address it
Got some stuff wrong, some right, and some TBD
Eating Crow
Said FSU would be out of the league in 2-3 years (2026-2027), pending they didn't get what they wanted (more money)
They're still in the league, at least for this year
Said the money gap, if they stayed in, would close significantly
15-20 million is better than 50 million/year, but is still a big enough number to cause concern
Taking a bow
Said the GOR wasn't iron clad like many claimed it was - Clearly, there were holes out the ass with it
Said FSU and others wouldn't be in the ACC in 2036 - 2030 will be the last year they're there, if not sooner
TBD
Where will everyone end up?
What schools will end up leaving before 2030?
How much before 2030 will they leave?
Not a total victory for FSU/Clemson, but pretty darn close. 6 years cut off of the GOR, 165-million-dollar buyout if they left now, decreases 18/mil each year until 2030, more guaranteed money each year and could earn more based on ratings and performance
This is what they initially asked for 2 years ago at the ACC meetings in Amelia Island, ACC presidents balked, now they got it and then some as the years off the GOR weren't in the original request.
Lot of time, money, effort, emotion etc. spent but well worth it
Simply put, unless you're SMU with seemingly unlimited amounts of cash, you cannot compete w/your peers (Bama, Auburn, Georgia and Florida) by falling 500 million behind them
Risky move, but it was needed to ensure survival in the new world of college athletics
Btw...you're welcome UNC and Miami
