OT: Illinois G/F Terrance Shannon has charges pending/suspended

Hopefully it's not true but arrest warrant means there is something to it compared to someone just reporting a story....

Absolute season killer for Illinois

Guess either the hoops staff or the university may not have done enough of a back ground check on the young man. Did not expect this from a major conference academically sound school.

This happened well after he transfered to Illinois

If true, can’t see him playing college basketball again
If this turns out to be what they're suggesting it is, he's in big trouble. Never mind not playing again. This will ruin his life.

He had issues at Texas Tech that seemed to never surface, but eventually transferred out of there. I think Illinois rolled the dice that he would stay on track and obviously, this is a item that completely distracts the entire fanbase and cloud over the program.

Add to this, the unfortunate shooting in the leg for Michigan State 4* frosh guard Jeremy Fears, who probably now misses any chance to develop this season and you have 2 certain NCAA caliber rosters, with some concerns.

Toss in the somewhat uncertain item in Ann Arbor with Juwan Howard and Indiana needing to get something going and that's a lot to overcome for the B1G. We'll see how these teams pull together or respond.

He is averaging 21.7pts, tied for 8th, FG 51.4% and 3pt 40.8%.

He was playing like a possible lottery pick, high 1st rounder in the 2024 NBA Draft. Illinois will not recover from this, changes their whole team dynamic mid season.

Hard for them to figure out he might be involved in something like this in the future based upon vetting him. Unless there were prior incidents, not sure how they could foresee this.

I think that's all that @Lawboy12007 was intimating...that maybe they just didn't do a good enough job to vet his background and/or character. Or perhaps they did 'enough' but sometimes that isn't always the easiest thing to gather from meeting someone and doing your due diligence. I agree with you that IF there was any prior history that can be an indicator but what if there was none? Not all potential bad apples have issues in the past.

I would disagree with Lawboy's remark about not expecting this from a "major conference academically sound school" as if that has any real bearing. Bad apples, esp. if unknown to be such, can be recruited and end up anywhere.
