OT: Illinois Success Facilitated by a Wonderful Football Fieldhouse

Although he has had many, this may have been Al’s dumbest and most ill timed post ever for his dream field house. Such a loser mentality.

Coach calls a TO and let’s the other coach out of the dumbest decision ever. And fieldhouses apparently prevent cold weather outdoor injuries.

Great idea! Let’s Crucify him while we’re at it!

Yes, Greg made a mistake. So what. He’s a football coach, not God. Coaching mistakes are part of the game, and he acknowledged the mistake:

“Certainly, retrospectively, I wish hadn’t, right?” Schiano said when asked to explain the decision. “But (I’ve) been doing this a lot of years. Sometimes I do. Sometimes I don’t.”

Illinois superior talent, which was facilitated by their Fieldhouse, won out. Pat Bryant and his 197 receiving yards won this game especially on the fateful play. They executed and won the game in a pressure situation. We had four guys in the vicinity and he eluded all of them.

They couldn't stop either UCLA or USC from throwing to RBs out of the backfield. It looked like they'd never seen it before and failed to adjust. That's a coaching problem.
Because the LBers failed to execute their assignments when Powell was hurt. Minnesota tried similar play, and #28 was on it like a fly on stink. It took time for the kids to recognize and properly react to the play.

We coached well against Maryland and Minnesota. Did our coaches all of a sudden become bums between Maryland and Illinois? Of course not. Illinois had better talent, which was facilitated by the Fieldhouse.
So we won vs Maryland and Minny because our coaches coached well, We lost to Illnois because of the lack of a Fieldhouse/NIL. How convenient of you

I will say it until the end of time, if you are single and find a girl (or guy) who loves you unconditionally the way RutgersAl loves Schiano, marry that person.

Apparently a field house is the difference in a head coaches ability to understand when the appropriate time to use a timeout is…. Unbelievable, truly unbelievable.

Al, you are an idiot

We beat Maryland and Minnesota because they are still working to replenish the talent that graduated, in Maryland’s case, the quarterback. Our talent won out.

#13 Pat Bryant, who had 197 receiving yards was hands down the best player on the field yesterday.

We need to land the Quincy Porters of the class, to have a similar talent. He’s from Bergen Catholic and didn’t give us a second look and instead, is going to Ohio State.

This is just plain stupid. Schiano has a history of making terrible in game coaching decisions. He will always find a way to be above average regardless of the facilities, NIL money, number of four and five star athletes on the roster. You really need to come to terms with that fact.
Coaches are human and they will make mistakes from time to time. Ohio States Ryan Day and Penn States James Franklin also make mistakes. Mistakes go with the territory.

If Greg had facilities and NIL money, he’d land more 4 and 5 star athletes, that he was accustomed to landing at Ohio State and Miami. And he’d have a larger margin for error. Talent advantages give you that.

You need to come to terms with mediocre support yields mediocre results. We have a very slim margin for error thanks to insufficient talent.

How did our talent win out when Maryland and Minnesota have fieldhouses?
They should have much superior talent.

Similar talent?

Quincy Bryant is the #1 in NJ and top 20 WR.
Pat Bryant appears to have been an unranked HS recruit.

Stop pulling in "we need OSU talent to compete with OSU" when we aren't playing OSU.

But both of those teams were favorited to win. You try too hard to decide games based on everything outside of coaching and decision making.

Auburn didnt beat Tamu because of a NIL facility advantage
Oklahoma didnt beat Bama because of a NIL facility advantage
Kansas has no advantage over Colorado and they still won

Too bad HC Schiano needs such a large margin of error.

Since we are unlikely to have sufficient NIL and a Fieldhouse anytime soon, should we look for a HC who needs less margin of error for now?

We certainly won't have the talent advantage (and large margin of error HC Schiano next year when OSU, PSU, Oregon and Iowa are on the schedule.

It helps to have OSU talent to beat other Big Ten teams. Pat Bryant developed and elevated himself to be one of the Big Tens best receivers. Maryland and Minnesota are working to replenish talent lost to graduation. This year, we were better. Prior years, we were much worse.

The Fieldhouse facilitates the acquisition of superior talent but doesn’t guarantee it.

You are overlooking the fact that talent is the primary factor in winning games. Is coaching and decision making important. Absolutely. But ultimately it’s the alignees, not the alignment which matters most.

Facilities are an important component of landing that talent. Auburn, Oklahoma, and Kansas all have terrific facilities. Oklahoma has a $370M Football Facility.

Are you trying to imply Oklahoma and their $370m facility out talented Alabama?

I haven't checked but I'm sure Bama doesn't have practice on some dirt field.

They had to fight and scratch their way to 6 wins with all those facilities advantages and talent That tells you its a lot more to it than that.

Al you just set your self up for that

Dont you know Kansas's great facilities ( which got them 63rd, 67th and 63rd recruiting classes the last 3 years) is how they beat a ranked team yesterday. Not team development, culture and in game decisions.

It can take time for kids to develop. Oklahomas kids had to go through a learning curve. And played their best game of the season.

Bryant developed, in no small part, because of coaching. Illinois's fieldhouse had nothing to do with it. Quincy Porter will go to Ohio State because he's a lot more likely to be a first round draft pick going there than coming to.RU. There are multiple Ohio State WRs in the NFL, which has more to do with their WR coach, Brian Hartline, than with a fieldhouse.

Build an Ohio State caliber program at Rutgers and Quincy Porter stays home because Columbus is a shithole. The biggest issue is this fanbase is not serious about success. To be serious, people need to pony up.

People like you think we can win on the cheap and it doesn’t work that way. We either have the support or we don’t. Right now we don’t.

There’s no reason why we couldn’t one day be a program that sends multiple first round picks to the NFL, especially because Schiano knows what it takes. But people would rather run their mouth than open their wallet. So we make do with the recruits we can land.

Their football facility is within the stadium.

Nope. Show me their indoor fieldhouse. That’s your barometer. It’s across the street from the stadium and it make the bubble look like ND’s facility. It’s such a dump I had to throw away my sneakers and pants after simply standing in it for a few hours because the Turf stained them so bad
Today’s loss has nothing to do with your overinflated idea of facilities.

They replaced the turf this past summer, and the facility looks much nicer than the bubble.

You can STFU and sit down.

Don’t need a medal. Just showing you have no idea what you are talking about. Yet living in reality for a bit.
And for the record, best two facilities hands down
Florida

Sorry, but you are misinformed.

Rutgers commissioned a study which says otherwise, after joining the big ten. It basically said our facilities are not on par with our Big Ten peers. I’ve been to my share of facilities and I don’t know how it’s possible to state that facilities are not a competitive advantage for our peers, but you’re entitled to your opinion. The study was the impetus to build the all purpose facility on Livingston and why they commissioned AECOM to come up with a Football Fieldhouse design. The design is complete, now we just need funds for construction.

Schiano had a football facility put into his contract. Now He says it would be built if someone stroked a check, but it’s not as big a priority as NIL.

Great idea! Let’s Crucify him while we’re at it!

Hey al, Rutgers has superior talent over the last 4 recruiting classes. The problem with most of your posts is that the facts belie your incorrect opinions or false narratives. Here are the average recruit rankings from Rivals for the last 4 classes under Schiano. We need not look at the classes prior to 2021, because those classes were under disAshter.

2021: Rutgers 2.95 (three 4 stars) Illinois 2.75 (Zero 4 stars)
2022: Rutgers 2.95 (six 4 stars) Illinois 2.85 (Zero 4 stars)
2023: Rutgers 2.84 (zero 4 stars) Illinois 2.65 (three 4 stars)
2024: Rutgers 2.81 (three 4 stars) Illinois 2.95 (four 4 stars)

In ever single year but last year, our average recruiting rankings were better than Illinois, and that is largely because Rutgers had a large class and 2 kickers with 0 stars.

What is more comical, is none of those six 4 star players from 2022 or 2021 had a role in the game yesterday. From 2024, Raymond, Sanders and Duff had roles. Guess who had bigger roles? 2 star Ian Strong, 3 star Athan Kaliakmanis, 3 star Kyle Monangai, and 0 star Dymere Miller.

For Illinois, the star were 3 star Pat Bryant and Luke Altmyer.

You know why Bryant chose Illinois? The coaches.

When coming down to my last two schools, I was looking for somewhere that has a great football program, a great wide receivers coach and a head coach with college experience but also ties to the National Football League,” Bryant told Illini Now/Sports Illustrated.
“I created a great relationship with Coach Stoker back going back to the summer of my 10th grade year at the Kennesaw State mega football camp and we’ve had a great connection ever since,” Bryant said
.

Luke Altmyer chose Illinois for the coaches too:
After two seasons at Ole Miss, Altmyer decided to transfer to the University of Illinois to pursue a new opportunity. His decision to join the Illini was influenced by the program's trajectory, the coaching staff, and the allure of competing in the Big Ten conference.

Little things matter:
1. The Coaches
2. Great Wide Receivers Coach
3. Program's Trajectory (Bielema was 8-5/5-4 in season 2, Greg was 5-8/27)

#FactsDestroyFalseNarratives

Nowhere was the fieldhouse mentioned. It was the coaching staff, and the trajectory.

Will take your opinion 100 times, as a person who has seen the facilities in person versus someone who is trying to judge based on social media posts. How many times have people looked at slick pictures on Zillow of a real estate listing, go to visit the house in person, and it is completely misrepresented and hyped up in the Zillow listing.

If he agrees to stop trolling you? Do you agree to stop trolling all of us?
We are violating our agreement. But I destroyed his narrative above. Rutgers has actually out recruited Illinois the past 4 years. Their two star players chose Illinois for the coaches and the trajectory of the program. Rutgers did not have a trajectory when Altmyer committed. Maybe Rutgers will if they can beat MSU and win their bowl. Game day coaching matters, and players see this.
