OT: Latest National Wrestling Rankings

Rutgers finished ahead of NC State in the recent Midlands tournament..

NC State had 2 champions at the Midlands which is probably why they have a higher ranking than Rutgers (NC State Heavyweight is already a 2 time NCAA champion).

We have about 5 guys that can score strong points in the ncaa tournament. Need a top ten finish there and multiple all-Americans as the next step in the program.
Guys who could/should all-American:
Ashnault
Perroti
Smith
Lewis
Giraldo
(Theobold).

Let's get 3 this year and keep building

Agree. Is Ash dinged up?

As an FYI for those who don't go to your wrestling board, pretty good discussion over there in general and one thread in particular that talks about where Rutgers is right now and where they need to be to join the likes of PSU, IOWA, etc. The reality is that wrestling isn't like football. The difference between #1 and #10 is very significant (no flame). A good buddy of mine wrestled for IU when they were a T10 program back in the 90s and they didn't even have one NC on their team.

True but top ten is a lot better than where we used to be. It is a huge improvement. PSU still seems light-years away however.

Interesting that the only SEC team on that top 10 list is Missouri, a relatively recent addition to the conference. When that is pointed out to the southern boys, they usually sputter out something like, "rasslin' don't matter none."

Missouri wrestles in the Big 12, SEC doesn't have Wrestling.

It may be true that there is a big jump from 8 to 1, but the jump from 3 to 1 is literally just as far. The reality is that right now there is PSU/Iowa, and then you have 3-10 all neck and neck trying to make the jump. Where Rutgers is lagging is that we do not have any national champs on our team. We need to get there in a hurry. NC State is a serious competitor -- they are trying very hard to build a winner and have had good success so far. The most noticeable thing at Midlands, unfortunately, was that although we did very well as a team, no one made it to the final.

5 out of the top 10 for the B1G, that is pure domination by a conference! Does any other conference do that in any sport?

Considering how regional wrestling is, it is hardly surprising...there are huge stretches of the US where no one cares about wrestling or lacrosse or ice hockey so whoever does play it will dominate it based on limited #s
