OT-Monmouth Bench Mob Sistine Chapel

its cute at first but gets old real quick...and I would have to raise the idea that they are rubbing it their opponents faces by doing it. The NCAA has signed off on it but how is this any better than a guy celebrating on the field after a touchdown

Its not better or worse. It is different. They aren't on the field.

People do plenty of stuff on the sidelines that you can't do on the field in celebration.

These are kids, most of whom I am sure don't see the light of day on the court unless it is a 50 pt blow out. Let them have a little fun.

Monmouth is smart to get behind this and market it. It's putting their school on the map as much as their team is.

Agree big difference between being on the field and on the sideline.

So we play them Sunday? I might have to check it out. #THEONLYREALREASONTOBUYARUTGERSHOOPSTICkET

They talked about MU's bench today on Around the Horn, PTI, Sportscenter, and will be on the NBA show. All mentioned what a great year they're having on the court. They're getting great publicity for the school and program.

It is getting them publicity. Before this, did anyone north of the Outerbridge ever hear of Monmouth? It seems lame to me if RU was racking up wins I'd rather the credit just be for that but then again more have heard us.

Sometimes our fan base is weak. A bunch of college kids having fun and people have to rip on them. We had acoach for years who taught his players to "chop." We ran out on the field with a friggin ax. We all loved it. In retrospect, the whole thing was ridiculous.

This team also lost to a 3 win Canasius team. Not sure if bench players were celebrating that one.

I predict by the end of the year the NCAA revisits this policy

And just how many emails did you send demanding those darn whippersnappers behave.... And cut their hair... And pull their pants up....

These kids are great and are more fun to watch than another blow out loss. Lighten up

Man, what a bunch of crotchety old farts posting in this thread. It's college kids having fun. At least their bench is engaged and full of energy during the games. If we don't want them to do it in the RAC, then we need to win the game.

so if they broke out a Nikki Minaj booty dance is that okay too. Do people actually attend basketball games. Do people realize how close to the court these players are. There are unsportsmanlike penalties given galore in college football for excess celebration. So I think the NCAA is being inconsistent. It wont take much for an opposing player who is fumed to throw a serious elbow at the bench. Would you guys like to see the Sistine Chapel done by our football team near the goalline after we score a td. I guess I am a traditionalist in that there should be some decorum during a game along the sidelines

They do it when the ball is on the other end.

If Rutgers was doing it, you'd love it. Trust me.

It won't take much for an opposing player who is fumed to throw an elbow at a heckler behind the bench that is giving them an earful all night, too. And yet that's almost never happened in sports - the Malice in the Palace and that Syracuse football player entering the stands after losing to us being the only two cases that come to mind.

The Sistine Chapel one bothers me some as a Catholic, but not at all as a fan.

Does anyone ripping on their bench have any context on the Monmouth celebrations in the flow of the game(s) where they took place? Anyone want to connect the dots to the Mike Rice video segments that were taken out of context of the regular flow of his practices?

You Sir, are not a traditionalist.

Dinosaur would be more like it.

Will you object if they do it at the RAC on Sunday ?

i said on hoops board....what if after a Monmouth timeout. Corey Sanders flaps his arms like a hawk. mike williams takes out his (pretend) shot gun and shoots it at Corey. Corey then falls to the ground.

Could the refs give them a T?

The Sistine Chapel, itself, bothers me:

""You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth."

Exodus 20:4

Think I might have heard it all in this thread. Bible quotes and 40 year old men yelling at kids to get off their lawn. I know it was a long time ago, but does anyone here remember what they were like at 19-21 years old or in college? Some of you act like you popped out of the womb acting like a 50 year old.

If they do it while ON the court (see: "in the game") then I'd have no issue with them being T'd up.

except these aren't a bunch of students cheering their team on. These kids are right on the bench. Will outright heckling be allowed next? I don't even get the get off my lawn references it really has nothing to do with this. By using that logic kids should be able to dance on top of the their desks during class because after all they are just 19

Here's a great example of a poster in his 40's trying to act like he's in his 80's. Ha !

Oh I definitely got up on my seat, IIRC level 2 of the "catacombs" at Hardenburg Hall, and did a quick dance of some sorts after receiving quite the unexpected (positively) grade on a paper in, shit what was it, 300-level Chaucer?

Monmouth? What's that? Sounds like a male Jamaican politician.

I realize you are a black or white kind of person....but you have to be able to interpret the analogy a bit for it's reference as an idiom to refer to older people who are generally gruff and crotchety.

It would be classic if they pulled some antics and Rutgers crushed them. Go RU!!!
