Here's how the Big Ten teams are ranked from the above list:

1) Iowa - 18 player arrests
2) MIchigan - 14
2) Purdue - 14
4) Nebraska - 12
4) Ohio State - 12
6) Penn State - 11
7) Illinois - 9
8) Indiana - 7
8) Michigan State - 7
10) Maryland - 6

WoW to WSU. You would think that if You would take on all those risky players, you would at least have a good football team.

What was Rutgers number?

This is from 6/ 2014 and think Nelson's arrest was missed or put on Minnesota
RU should have 1 because of Nelson

Has NJ.com or the Ledger picked up on this story yet? Rutgers does play 3 of the teams that made the list this season. Duggan-where are you? Take a poke at Meeechagun or TTFP.
If they do, we all know the angle they will take ( see Rokodesh post).

If RU's name was anywhere on the list-even in the small print- it would have been headline material.

Coug here. Yep, this is pretty damn embarrassing. We have been in the Fulmer Cup top ten for the past decade or so. I would like to point out a couple of things in our defense though. None of the arrests have been particularly serious, i.e. rapes, armed robbery etc. Lots of stupid stuff. Shoplifting, minors in bars, fights, DUIs etc. Still embarrassing though. Secondly, the last year has produced zero arrests of any kind. Leach is cleaning up the program on the field, off the field and in the classroom. GPAs are the highest they have ever been.

Magoo's post is ironically correct. Rambunctious behavior off the field yet milquetoast behavior on it. I hope, pray and expect that the Fulmer Cup has seen the last of us. And the same for the wimpy football performances.

Good luck to you in the coming season. Expect a competitive game in September in Jersey.

Keep in mind that PSU was short on scholarships the last few years. If they had a full allotment of scholarships I'm sure they would have been in the top 25.

Not correct. No where (not even in the fine print) does it say they have to be scholarship players. They had walk-ons to get them to the full allotment.

DAM! Where is Rutgers! Another top list we didn't make! I did spell it right R...U...T...G...E...R...S, didn't I!?

I'm really getting sick and tired of not being on any top National List. But, I do see that Syracuse, Ped State, Pittsburgh, and of course all the Florida Schools, Florida, Florida State, Miami, and South Florida. Oh, and even TCU made that list. Doesn't that stand for Texas "Christian" Univ.?

Well, maybe next year, I mean this is New Jersey after all.....[smoke]

Read the small print. 60 unlisted teams had less than 5- perhaps that is where you will find RU

That's basically half of the Div I-A programs (think there are now 128?) so in this list, its good to be "average" (i.e. less than 5 arrests over last 5 years...i.e. less than 1 per year on average).

Here's a list of those teams named in the OP in regards to the number of wins per arrests over last 5 years.

I count 11
You are correct, sir!

#2 - Florida - 24
#3 - TIE - Georgia - 22
#3 - TIE - Texas A&M - 22
#6 - TIE - Missouri - 20
#6 - TIE - Ole Miss - 20
#10 - Tennessee - 19
#12 - TIE - Alabama - 18
#12 - TIE - Kentucky - 18
# 15 - LSU- 16
#19 - Arkansas - 14
#23 - Auburn - 13

The only three not in the Top 25 are Mississippi State (can't find the number), South Carolina (9), and Vanderbilt (rape scandal).

This list is of "reported" arrests, no? If a school did not "report" an arrest, that arrest was not tallied for this report. So there's that. . . .

Has nothing to do with school's reporting arrests and many involved non-Univ police departments and all are public record.

Some schools actually try to hide arrests (i.e. they don't put out a public statement or press release or comment on it), just like Baylor tried to do with one of their star players who was actually arrested over a year ago for sexual assault but the media finally found out about it 2 weeks ago once his trial date was set.

And your point is exactly what?

We are not recruiting saints obviously. If you want saints, head to Rome or to New Orleans.

Personally I'll take players who can score often. Do I want them to be good people? Of course! But most grew up without knowing their father or any man who didn't beat their mom. At least they have a chance at success. Most do not.

This is a more pro football mentality which I realize a lot of the SEC has. There are people like myself (who is a NYG season ticket holder since 2001 BTW) who are fed up with the NFL, particularly the off field antics of players, and look to the college game for a purer version of the sport. I have nothing against the SEC and respect it's tradition...in fact next year A buddy and I (PSU grad) are going to start visiting one SEC stadium per year, but to me it's the most like an NFL minor league of all the college football conferences. And not just because of level of play on the field. Outside of Vanderbilt who always seems like an outlier...like the kid who gets a fraternity bid just to help raise the house GPA, the SEC is more prone to putting football first before school throught the MAJORITY of it's conference. You can argue this but it's my carefully formulated OPINION.

Uh....holy cow.
What are you taliking about?
I guess "Southern Gentleman" still means exactly what it's always meant.

I apologize. I made my statement based on my personal experiences with some players I have known over the years. It wasn't meant to be factual, just from my perspective.

No school tries to recruit thugs, miscreants, felons, and the like. Some just turn out that way.

I agree with the first sentence I quoted here. For the second sentence, that's too dismissive. I mean, 11 out of 14 in the conference are in the top 25 for arrests over the last five years? That's extremely unlikely to be pure chance (i.e., it "just turned out that way").

Only two possible explanations come to mind: either the police enforcement is not applied evenly across the nation, or the collective character of the players in some programs is different than in others. I don't think anyone believes it's the former.

IMO this is a reflection of the "win at all costs" mindset of a large % of SEC fan bases. Those schools are not paying their coaches $4,000,000+ per year (all of them!) to put up losing records, and if the coaches have to take chances on players that are higher risks of running into trouble with the law, they will do it as long as those players can help win games.

We've seen it in the past at other "football first" programs with Miami in the 80s, Oklahoma under Switzer (still #5 on this list), Free Shoes U (still #10 Peter Warrcik shoplifting at Dillard's or Jameis Winston and the crab legs - I guess he was just following FSU tradition), Penn State has issues near the end of Paterno's time (not talking about the Sandusky stuff here). The SEC has the same mindset.
