OT: My Top 10 List of Steakhouses

My favorite steak to date was at Benjamin Steakhouse in NYC.

I haven't been to many of the top ones in NYC, but I've stumbled across several that make the national travel top 10s for steakhouses and really haven't been impressed with the ones generally listed. I guess they're embarrassed to put too many from any one area, but the ones I've hit (places like St. Elmo's in Indy, Dickie Brennan's in New Orleans) were nothing special to me. In fact, some seem chosen for reasons other than steak which is kind of strange for a list of top steakhouses...

[QUOTE="BLewis1968, post: 299523, member: 1510" And the one in As far as the OP list, I haven't been to 1 through 4, can vouch for 5 through 9 and would replace 10 with any Morton's (of which there are if memory serves one in Hackensack, one in Princeton, one in midtown, one in the FIDi and a Mortons' Grille that just opened in lower Manhattan).

There is no Morton's in Princeton but there is a Ruth's Chris. There is a Morton's in Atlantic City and I believe there is one in Bergen County.[/QUOTE]

If in Princeton, try Witherspoon Grill. My go-to local steakhouse.

If anyone has some Jersey steakhouse suggestions, pass 'em on. I think I've only been to Bobby Flay AC, Witherspoon Grill, Steakhouse 85 and, Ruth's Chris in NJ.

Yes, there is one in the Riverside Square Plaza in Hackensack and another in Atlantic City. And I guess I'm showing my age. I thought I remembered going to one in Princeton maybe ten years ago. Probably long since closed, I guess.

Old Homestead at Borgata in AC, and Uncle Jacks in NYC are my favs

These 2 places are just as good as any NYC place outside of the top 5. A great alternative if you do not want to cross the river.

Best in the world: La Cabrera in Buenos Aires

Del Friscos
Striphouse (University Pl)
Keens
Sparks
Smith and Wollensky

Don't understand the love affair with Wolfgangs

Del Friscos is my Favorite whereas Keene's is my Wife's favorite for local places.

If I go out of the area I would say the Chiphoise in Chicago or Mannys Steakhouse in Minneapolis(phenomenal)

To add to the list:
Bohanan's in San Antonio was very good.

Capital Grille in Chicago was also good. Similar to the others.

I agree Keene's needs to be high on the list. Wolfgangs in Somerville is outstanding. I met Wolfgang himself the last time I ate there. He was the head waiter at Peter Lugar for many may years. He has about eight locations but I would definitely not categorize it as a chain like Ruth Chris or Capital Grille. Wolfgang is obviously personally involved in making certain that the locations are consistently great.
The list of Wolfgang's locations is quite interesting:

Waikiki
Beverly Hills
NYC
Tokyo
Miami
Seoul
Somerville

Kind of makes a statement about Central NJ.

Ate there the other night - Steak was good but appetizers and service were not at the same level. Char in Bridgewater is the opposite, good service and excellent apps but they have problems cooking steaks to the right temperature so not possible to call it a good steakhouse. Steakhouse 85 is excellent although I haven't been there in a while.

I personally love the Capital Grille in Philly and the Cherry Hill location is very good also. Morton's in Chicago was probably the best one I've been to.

How does Stage Left rank against these, i never eaten there.

I've had the filet mignon there a bunch of times. It's typically good, but nothing amazing. The burgers at Stage Left are usually very, very good, although the past couple times were not so great.
