i don't understand why the professional teams would allow their top talent to play in such a rough tournament midseason. Injuries could cripple their chances for a great season.
Also, I was rooting for Canada ( as were most of my buds) when I heard some loudmouth yapping about the game.
I assume they figured players would treat it like an exhibition, not WWIII. Obviously the nutty political anti-canada crap could not have been predicted. But the Tkachck brothers probably could have been predicted. In the end, other than McAvoy, the injured players all seemed to choose their own fate, so there is that.

I said people can root for whoever they want. Was just pointing out the hypocrisy of the only-USA crowd not rooting for the US women's soccer team - it's also a big difference to be rooting against a team vs. for one.

I was rooting for Canada, not really against the USA, per se, as I've been a huge fan of US hockey for a long time. One of my favorite sporting events ever was watching the USA hockey team winning gold in 1980 and watching my Flyers spank the Red Army Soviet team in 1976 (the only NHL team to beat them). I also started rooting for Canada in 1972, during the Summit series with the Soviets, which Canada won 4-3-1, so I've had a long history of rooting for both Canada and the US in hockey. Also, the US wasn't really competitive on a professional level until maybe 30 years ago.
So, you tried to point out the hypocrisy of others while engaging in the same hypocrisy itself. Hmm, that's a new one even for you. LOL!

Rooting against your county, simply b/c you don't like someone's politics, is, and I'm putting it nicely, bitch shit
And that includes the hockey game night (Dems) or rooting against USA women's soccer b/c of Rapinoe (Reps)
Legit, 10/10 on a puss scale
Bam!

It's defintely weird watching and rooting against the USA, I don't like them playing each other
World Cup 2006 when they played each other was especially uncomfortable

Re. the food, definitely need to preserve that
Can't live without it!

My grandfather was part of the invasion of Sicily and fought for the US. His father was born in Italy. That was a different time and we should be thrilled we're past it. I'm a citizen of both countries and proudly so. Both afford me the right to root for whom I damn well please. We should celebrate that. That is what he fought for. That is what I celebrate.

People saying otherwise are engaging in exactly the kind of behavior this country was formed to be a counterweight towards. People want to be told how to think and revere humans like gods, North Korea is right there and waiting. In the US, we had a war about this, the people who wanted a king lost.

Couldn't agree more
Thank God we live in a place where we can freely express our opinions and have freedom of speech
