Only got to see the OT and highlights since it was poker night, but very happy for Canada and McDavid, the best player in the world and the most fun to watch. I root for the US in most sports, but always root for Canada in hockey - it's their game and especially the last few decades it's been sad to see no Canadian teams winning the Stanley Cup.

You wanted Canada to win over a team that was representing your country because it is "THEIR" game?

What??????????????????????????

Great game...so hard to beat a team 2 times in a short series. Both teams should be proud. That being said Matthews just comes up small in big moments. I don't know if he wasn't feeling well but he seemed like a mope the whole tournament. Hughes just needs to stay on his feet.

Looking forward to the Olympics!

It was a great game and great addition to the NHL schedule.

I guess you will be rooting for England in the World Cup then?

Everyone giving numbers shit for rooting for Canada essentially goes against what being an American really is all about

Having the freedom to do as you please, and Route for whomever you like, is the the core of our existence

I was rooting for the USA, but obviously this means significantly more to Canada, so even though I’m disappointed, I am happy for them

I can relate to rooting for other countries versus the USA as I always root for Italy anytime they play the US in anything, but especially in soccer

Now, if we were going to war, and it was us versus Italy, I would hope that we would blow them off the map (while somehow still preserving the beautiful peninsula landscape)

It wasn't like that during the Olympics. There is some hypocrisy being spewed in here this morning.

Didn't you give people crap for rooting against USA women's soccer and especially doing it because of politics?
I recall pointing out the hypocrisy of some posters who normally would always root for the USA rooting against the women for political reasons, but people can root for whoever they want to, IMO. I've never rooted for Canada for political reasons, by the way. I grew up as a huge hockey fan and over the last 20+ years have found myself rooting for Canada in international hockey, because I know how much more hockey means to Canada than it does to the US and I've felt bad for my Canadian friends (have several - Merck has a subsidiary in Montreal and I got to know a bunch of folks from there) not having won a Stanley Cup since 1993.

If you can root for another country for your reasons why couldn't people root against the USA women's team for their own reasons?

I'm not looking to bust your chops but you're not making much sense, for example you would root for USA women's vs a country that has gone longer winning a World Cup than Canada has gone winning a cup. By almost three decades.

I'm going to drop it but I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy.

I hear ya. World Cup soccer is a tough one for me too because I grew up rooting for Germany (half German) and the US either didn't qualify or just wasn't taking it seriously enough when I started following the WC. They are now. I root for them, but on the rare occasions that they have played each other, I check out of the game and can't really watch. And as for preserving the Italian peninsula in the event of war, don't forget about the food too.

Totally agree about this probably meaning more for Canada. When I was up there for the International Bowl the World Junior Championships were going on and they were insane about it. I believe Canada won that year.

I said people can root for whoever they want. Was just pointing out the hypocrisy of the only-USA crowd not rooting for the US women's soccer team - it's also a big difference to be rooting against a team vs. for one.

I was rooting for Canada, not really against the USA, per se, as I've been a huge fan of US hockey for a long time. One of my favorite sporting events ever was watching the USA hockey team winning gold in 1980 and watching my Flyers spank the Red Army Soviet team in 1976 (the only NHL team to beat them). I also started rooting for Canada in 1972, during the Summit series with the Soviets, which Canada won 4-3-1, so I've had a long history of rooting for both Canada and the US in hockey. Also, the US wasn't really competitive on a professional level until maybe 30 years ago.

It's defintely weird watching and rooting against the USA, I don't like them playing each other
World Cup 2006 when they played each other was especially uncomfortable

Re. the food, definitely need to preserve that
Can't live without it!

Didn’t get any production from Eichal and Hughes
Hughes was -2 last night (gah) though I wouldn't pin either of the goals on him. I watched him pretty carefully and all in all I thought he looked pretty good, but was often times looking for someone who just wasn't there.

But also there was clearly an intensity gap between the guys who thought they were out there fighting World War III, and the guys who realized that this is the all-star break, and the NHL season starts up again Saturday.

Tough to find chemistry with guys you’ve never played with in a span of less than 2 weeks.

i don't understand why the professional teams would allow their top talent to play in such a rough tournament midseason. Injuries could cripple their chances for a great season.
Also, I was rooting for Canada ( as were most of my buds) when I heard some loudmouth yapping about the game.

How are you half German if 100% of you was born in the United States?

Canada winning is SO GREAT!

I've never seen so many Americans rooting for another country. But it is so understandable. Thrilled for them!
