NHL has already announced February of 2028. So will be a break from the regular season, for sure.
I’ve been watching hockey my entire life. Those looked like staged fights. I could be wrong, but not sure a drop of blood was spilled or a single punch connected.
2028? by then will it be 3 nations and a state? Or perhaps USA, FIN, SWE and RUS?

I did see an article after the game explaining how the fights were discussed before the game. I forget the source, but they did look that way.

You can see Matthew Tkachuk ask Hagel to fight as they lined up for the faceoff. I can't imagine it was somehow pre-arranged before that.

Laughable assessment. In a sport where fighting is routine compared to other sports, you guys think these fights between rival countries, with all the build-up leading up to it, were fake? Nobody on the ice was pissed afterwards because this is hockey, fighting is part of the game.

Are you going to provide us with a link to this article you read? Yes, sometimes players take dives to draw a penalty as you mentioned, but what would be the point of two rivals faking a fight?
Yeah I don't get the point of it being fake. You mean these guy who are some of the best hockey players in the world are also WWE level fakes that can swing wildly like that without risking injury? I watched the fights a half dozen times. Fast flying fists that didn’t connect once. Look at the players afterwards - not a scratch. Then the helmets come off and they grab each other in a hug to the ice and the refs come in. NHL viewership has been dropping to the point that the WNBA put up some better numbers. The fact that friends who don’t even care about hockey were texting me about the fights means it worked.
Spend a few minutes to re-watch the fights. Look at the punches, the refs reactions, etc. IMO it looked like the NHL or players realize the WNBA was putting up better viewership numbers. If the NHL’s numbers continue to drop I bet fighting will increase dramatically.

They looked like most other hockey fights. Many punches don't connect and they lose balance and land on top of each other because they're fighting on ice. How did you want the refs to react? You think any player actually gives a rat's ass about ratings, especially in a heated rivalry game fueled by national pride? Jeez man, now I remember why I stopped bothering with the hockey threads on here.
If you watch hockey as much as you claim you would know that, while tough guys, none of the 6 players involved are known for their fighting or even fight much.
No one who could fit the fighting standard you are looking for is a good enough hockey player to make a team that is the best of his country’s players.
Listen, all I can say is to watch these clips especially the slo-mo. Three fights not a drop of blood or a scratch on six players involved. This was theater. And it worked great because the NHL is buzzing as a result.
