Want to feel really old?

Rams have hired Sean McVay, former Redskins OC.

He is only 30 years old, and will be the youngest HC in NFL history.

And people here be bitching about the fact that our former offensive coordinator was only 28 years old when he was hired ha ha Ha ha ha!

I think it was also about experience. Both McVay and DM were really young to be OCs but McVay had the better resume and bloodline.

But those bitching were proved right and those who gave them grief have trouble acknowledging Drew was over his head .
I put my trust in Ash knowing what he was doing with the OC hire and was proven wrong by the results.
Then Mehringer rabbited to Texas and excuses were made for his leaving a failure .

McVay's grandfather knows a little football and that might just have helped Sean developed more OC capability at a young age then D.Rabbit was able to

The problem is NFL coaches get fired too quickly so they run out of good candidates. Most of these losing teams (not all) sucked because their players sucked and they had no QB. I don't get why they fire these guys so fast.

no way would I entrust my franchise to a 30yr old kid

stop....I could post a litany of hires that were 'young' that didn't pan out. For every success story you want to cite, there at least a 100 that were not success stories. For every Pit Bull there is a waiter slinging fries or a gas station attendent pumping gas

Yeah, but DM demonstrated he was not ready to handle a P5 OC job by his play calling, use of personnel and the way he handled himself in pressers. Some people are beyond their years, but IMO DM was not one of them.

In a world where everyone was logical and reasonable this wouldn't have to be said, but...

Somebody else making bad choices doesn't validate your own bad choices.
Bingo - the Rams and Redskins are notorious for making dumb decisions.

I agree the Redskins have made bad decisions in the past but how is that related to this situation?

The Rams have no answers at this time so they are hoping for a miracle... Instead of taking the time to build a program. Being in LA has forced their hands plus the Chargers issue has complicated their time table. Maybe St. Louis doesn't look that bad now.

well Mark Zuckerberg is only 32 and has been leading Facebook as a billionaire for a number of years now

They are probably trying to catch lightning in a bottle hoping this coach pans out and energizes the team. Fisher was a coach a long time and probably had a different approach that the players may not be responding to any longer.

In baseball many teams go back and forth between the fiery guy to the laid back guy. The Mets did it when they went from Bobby Valentine to Art Howe.

Excellent quote. Putting it on my bulletin board, fridge, wall, mirror, desk, wherever.

I have been underwhelmed by the new HC selections across the board. McVay coached with Gruden who is an offensive guy and McDermott coached with Rivera who is a defensive guy. I did not think Lynn had a legitimate shot at a job outside of Buffalo. Joseph was a DC one year? I am not a big fan of retreads but no one from the staffs of the top finishers this year.

Works for the Steelers. Last three coaches: Noll, Cowher and Tomlin were all the youngest head coaches in the NFL.

Tomlin it feels like has been around forever and he is still only 44.

If his Grandfather wasn't a former head coach(wasn't a good one) and front office exec this kid would not be getting this head coaching job at age 30.

Experience is a funny thing. Don Shula was first hired as a head coach at age 32. He wound up winning 347 games, but he couldn't have done it without winning one game first.

What's even more interesting is that the Steelers have hired 3 coaches since 1969. There's a lesson there somewhere.
