The NFL Pro Bowl has sunk so low that during Pro Bowl week they are adding a Dodgeball game with NFL players to generate interest. Isn't it just easier to cancel the Pro Bowl all together?
This is such a bad idea. I guess they don't remember Robert Edwards in the failed NFL beach football game. Or Barry Larkins during the MLB All Star Skills Contest.

Having it in Orlando is probably not bad but it may be better if it were President's Day weekend when many schools are off.

It is a scrimmage for fun and pride. There is still something when you see the best receivers against the best corner backs in single coverage or the best lineman vs the best defensive linemen.

The best lineman? That would be a nice idea if they gave a crap about it and played with any intensity. But they are smart enough not to end their career in a scrimmage that nobody watches or cares about.

I would rather see a skills challenge like they do in hockey. See who is the fastest, catches the most balls from a jugs machine, hits the most targets with passes, etc. Didn't they used to do this before? Do they still do it and I just miss it every year?

There is no intent behind Pro Bowl.

"Pro Bowl" exists as a contract milestone. Most players want nothing to do with actually playing in the game. The NFL spends as little money as possible to actually put on the show.

When I was with the League, we would send 300 people to Super Bowl. Sixty of us would hit the ground a full month before the game and be there until the Tuesday after. The full League Office compliment was on the ground 10 days prior to the game. We would all be double-booked for major (i.e. celebrity) events Thursday through Saturday night. The budget for Super Bowl, as a long-duration event, was pushing $200 million.

At the same time, Pro Bowl was run entirely by one person (she happened to be Roger Goodell's secretary at the time). And she had Super Bowl duties as well. She'd go to Hawaii the friday before Pro Bowl.

I love the idea of dodgeball along with a skills contest and just get rid of the game itself. These guys are making too much money to risk an injury and can afford a Hawaii trip on their own. I'm sure it was great back in the day when the players were only making 100K.

Make it more like superstars back in the 70's and I would watch.

Non NFL game competitions are a good move for the NFL Probowl. Dodgeball will be a hit.

I would like to see and offensive line/defensive line only 7 on 7.

And a 3 on 3 or 5 on 5 basketball tournament.

We're not interested in watching the best football players play an extra game of football. We're interested in watching the best players at their positions show case the athleticism in other ways. We want to be entertained - first and foremost - sports is entertainment. With the health risks involved in this game non football contact events is the best thing for the league to do.

They said the same thing about beach football and skills competitions. Than a player ends his career or your all star player misses the rest of the season.
Fun for us to watch? No doubt. Still a stupid move in the NFL's part. And an admission by the NFL knows there no interest in the game

I'd 100% watch it lol.

I agree with the skill position stuff. I have watched the homerun derby and the 3-point contest in the NBA I think every year for a while now. Can't tell you the last time I watched a MLB/NBA All star game, or Pro bowl for that matter. A OL/DL 7-on-7 with running/passing from them would be entertaining. A kicking contest like the homerun derby/3 point contest would be neat. Imagine the winner needs to hit like 1 75-yarder to do it and it bounces off the post or something. THAT is the kind of stuff they should do

Go back to a Superteams type competition with defensive lineman riding tandem bicycles and tug of wars.

The only way it would be interesting is if it was NFL hopefuls last chance at glory.

Knowing Goodell he's probably already working on fantasy dodgeball to squeeze a few extra ducats out of the kiddies. Players will be wearing special edition polka dot sock to "fight" measles

Nerf footballs? Sorry, everyone knows a dodgeball has to be round and has to leave a red mark if you get drilled in the face. Not interested.
