OT: NJ Devils 2024-2025 Thread

Haha....

They're just so BAD when they're not a factor. There's not really an in between with them - when they're on, they're amzing. When they're off, they're just brutal. And they've been off much more than they've been on lately. Need that to change quickly.

I blew off going to the Outlaws concert in Morristown to go to this CRAP fest. My wife son and I bought a ticket package before Christmas and this game was in the package. It seems since we gave them our money the team said " we got their money now... SUCKERS". Our next game is against Dallas after the break. Probably won't go. Not worth going if they won't SHOOT THE F'IN PUCK. 38 Special is at the Bergen Performing Arts Center 2 days before. I think I will be killing off a music hang over.

How many more years are we going to see the same play run? Start off well with our mostly small forward group flying around skillfully. Wait until opponents remember the way to slow us down is to beat on us. As injuries start piling up, Fitz stays with his hope and wish philosophy he talked about last year. Of course this is Part due to having little cap space and giving way too many players trade protection. Now for the icing on the cake, our owners don't really know, or care about winning hockey games. They want to buy teams and count their money.

This team lacks grit and toughness. For those that missed Noesen's post-game comments he said the team lacked CARE. Now Coach Keefe quickly tried to say he chose the wrong word, but the proof is in the results. Even banged up players should be able to buckledown and try. Nico's injury sucks, but come on no one plays with heart when he is gone, unacceptable. In two short years Nico will be a Free Agent, it is time for the Devils to be proactive and give him a reason to stay.

A carcass rots from the head down. Ownership cares little about winning. As such NO ONE is worried about being fired! This is best illustrated by Boozeface Tom Fitzgerald, who looks like he is running last years playbook. Keefe is new but shares in the blame when it comes to Timo. That is right put him where he found success in San Jose, RW and PP1. Hold everyone accountable, this means a Hughes or a Bratt. Let them know every shift has stakes! In closing I hope Nemec is not the next Holtz. Lack of depth forced him up last year. His mouth got him up this year. You want to sing to the media, you better bring your A game. Last night he failed. I put him on the clock as the next Devil Fitz will badmouth publically, then trade for peanuts.

Alot of promise, but this team is poorly run!

Boozeface?

Where did you hear that? I do know he likes his beer, but so do many.
A few places online. I only used it to be a little different trying for humor, thinking my points would take hold, and not a potential drinking problem. Last night many in the chat room on the Runnin with the Devils podcast were using it.

I'm not hating on him, just his inaction. BTW Ireland drinks less than most of Europe, oh and I am a good part Irish in my ethnicity so I'm not making fun of anyone. This team's play has just depressed me.

Say what you want about being down their Selke candidate captain, their Vezina candidate goalie and now their best defensive defenseman, there are REAL problems with this roster. It's clear now that last year's team getting dummied up and down the ice made Fitz over compensate by adding no real skill and instead adding "grit." In a vacuum, some of those moves worked, but too many guys are being forced into roles they shouldn't be. Look at this group of forwards:
  • Noesen - like him as a player, but he's not a 2nd liner
  • Cotter - perfect 4th line player - nailed to 3LW spot
  • Lazar - ok 4th liner, but fair to expect more than 4 pts in 31 games - he could barely crack the '22-23 lineup
  • Tatar - tried to recapture magic w/Hischier from 2 years ago - total dud
  • Palat - belongs nowhere near the top line - he's an anchor on the true skill guys
  • Bastian - not/never has been an NHL player, no other organization gives him 6+ years
  • Dowling - cannot be a 3C for 50+ games
  • MacDermid - why in the world is he on a guaranteed contract?
I'd be fine with moving on from the bottom 6 on that list next year. Obviously that won't all happen, but that is an awful lot of junk clogging up the majority of your nightly lineup.
