OT: Not going to see Star Wars movie

I want to see the new movie, but the stinginess is strong in this one - so I'm not sure when I will actually see it.

Episodes IV through VI are great if you take them as good vs evil escapist adventure. Episodes I and II were pretty boring overall. Episode III was pretty good.

The imdb rankings have Empire as the #12 rated movie of all time; Star Wars at #19; and Jedi at #72. The new one is #45 somehow even though almost nobody has seen it yet. FWIW, the #1 movie on their list is the Shawshank Redemption followed by the Godfather and Godfather Part II.

Mike - I'll back you up here. I have no interest as well. I went to the movie theatre when the original came out and I fell asleep during the movie. As a result, I never have completely watched any of the Star Wars movies.

I have seen Logan's Run multiple times. Was never a big Star Trek fan but watched them all with my buds back in college. I do recall that I liked watching the Buck Rogers TV show back in the day. However that was to see Erin Gray in spandex.

Same here. Was rather bored with the first "Star Wars" waaayyyy back in 76 and have not seen any of the others since. Nor am I into any of the "action adventure" type movies being made since the 70s (Stallone, Schwarzenegger, etc.) up to the current fantasy adventure "in your face" type stuff with poor quality acting and little or no plot. Much prefer films in realistic settings about relationships between real people that ultimately make for interesting and/or humorous social commentary about the world we live in. But I'm definitely not averse to mystery or suspense thrillers that involve realistic techno type themes (Michael Chrichton, Dan Brown, etc.) with a touch of literary license.

Did you know George Lucas and get a prescreening because the first movie was released in 1977.[winking]

Im not sure what the point here is. Most people wont see it in theaters. Even something as popular as gone with the wind, at a time when more people went to movies, maybe only 25% of Americans saw it in theaters.

So good for you.

I think I didn't see the original. I know I never saw the others. I will definitely not see this one.

For some reason, many folks seem to classify Star Wars as a Sci Fi film. It's not Sci Fi, rather, it's an action-adventure fairy tale.... sort of a mythological coming-of-age hero's journey involving the struggle of good vs evil.
Actually, it's simpler than that - if you strip out all the effects and futuristic stuff, the original Star Wars is essentially a classic Western - some have used the term, "Space Western."
