OT: NY Mets 2025 Season Thread

Syracuse Mets coming up on SNY now, Blade starting

Some Mets news:

Home OD today!

It is also the first day of full minors!! Justin Hagenman, Jack Wenninger, Noah Hall, and Nate Dohm are going. Looking forward to Dohm's minor league debut. Wenninger is someone to watch this year as well.

Blade Tidwell pitched last night and went 3.1 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 4 K, 1 HR with ERA up to 5.40 through 2 starts.

Dedniel Nunez pitched as well going 2 innings giving up a hit, walking one, and striking out two. He should be back up in a week when eligible.

Early observations- Pete is going 50/120+ this year
Our BP is actually very god.
Our SP- not perfect but very good for not having a so called ACE.
The team fights like hell
Lindor showing life.

Don't think Baty makes it long term...for us
Our bench is strong but since half of it is a platoon- it also means that maybe we have strong bench players starting many times.

Players I feel have a great chance at great years
Pete
Soto
Lindor
Peterson

Pete is going to have a monster year !

No pressure on him this year !

It’s all on Soto!

Plus Pete wants the big contract !

Pete seems to have a completely different approach this year- wonder if Soto is an influence? 6 walks and only 2 K's- going the other way a lot...just so much more controlled.
I also like that Cohen has shown that for this year- he can afford $30+ for Lindor, the Soto contract and 30 for Pete.

If Pete keeps playing like this- I have no problem going 5/150 mil for him and I think he jumps at it.

Now- the other hitters need to get going.

Pitching is surprisingly very good. A couple of guys in the BP worry me but overall- looks very good!

Batting .184 as a team and over .500

He's definitely staying in and going to right more. He's also, at least so far, laying off the high and tight stuff. He's done this in the past and been successful. But the league will adjust, as it did in the past, and start pounding him in more. If that happens, then he may adjust, even if subconsciously, and start opening up, turning on that pitch and launching it out to left field. If that happens, he could ultimately get back into bad habits of pulling off the ball. And then problems. Of course, maybe he doesn't. He will also have slumps, and it will be interesting to see how he reacts to that. In other words, it's going to take a long time to determine whether he's righted himself in any sort of sustained way.

How much does the league need to adjust to a guy with 200+ HR?
Kind of weird to think they forgot the fact and history of 3000+ ABs...

It's possible that you missed the point. But, if you don't think the league will adjust to his revised approach, you're entitled to that thought. And if you don't think he'll have a slump, you get to have that one too. And, if you're right, I guess it's smooth sailing for him the rest of the season.

Of course he will have a slump. And he will have hot streaks.
What I am saying- is he has 3k AB’s- he has become a bit more patient this year. He always hit to RF with power.
There isn’t really a new book to pitch to.
If he weaknesses was chasing pitches in a particular spot and he has stopped doing that, it doesn’t mean you can now pitch to a spot he used to hit.
It just makes him more dangerous and no matter how you slice it, tge put her always has the advantage

How are you guys feeling about Soto so far?

Haven’t watched the Mets at all this year yet, but Jackson Merrill’s comments the other day got me curious.

Nothing huge. Just a little shade at Soto....for some reason I can't really figure out.

Soto wasn’t known as a “team first” guy on the Padres, but Merrill cares less about $ or individual stats and just wants to win.

Unnecessary dig for sure, but figured I’d ask.

It's just two different types of athletes. One is more money driven than the other. I don't blame Soto for going for the best deal throughout the years, nor do I blame Merrill for going for the life changing money and not testing free agency.

Now Kristian Campbell on the Sox? I think he shortchanged himself with his recent contract. Could have gotten way more if he wanted to. That kid's a freakin' beast.

Each at bat last night, Bassitt went in against Pete then outside trying for strike three, to great success. Pete took an 0-fer with three Ks against Bassitt and a lefty reliever. Just one game, so let’s hope it’s not the start of Pete cooling off.
