What hurt him with the Mets is they want someone who still has minor league options for the last spot on the roster for flexibility.

Dumb question, but if signed to a minor league contract but has no options, does that mean that once the parent team brings him up to the major league level, he has to stay up or go on waivers but he can start the year in the minors?

As a five year veteran, Iglesias cannot be sent to the minors without his consent. Once he is brought up, he has to stay up. Otherwise he can request his release.

I would add that veteran minor league contracts generally include a clause whereby if the player isn't called up to the majors by X date, the player can request his release on that date.
