Hooray for Calvin Zeigler and Jonah Tong. Good to see Alex Ramirez off to a good start. Feel like he's now been kind of devalued. Is he repeating AA or was he at Brooklyn last season?

Saw today Jerry Grote passed away. I’m crushed. One of my favorite players. Johnnie Bench once said if Grote was a Red, Bench would have been a 3rd baseman.

Bench was just being nice. Grote was an excellent defensive catcher, but Bench was the best catcher I've ever seen....could throw you out from his knees.

Mets have allowed 13 unearned runs in nine games. Plus they've allowed a few earned runs which could have been prevented with better defense.

By contrast, the 1999 Mets, with its insanely good defensive infield (Olerud, Alfonso, Ordonez, Ventura), gave up 20 unearned runs all season.

Watching the Mets on SNY and the broadcast suddenly turned into Spanish. But it might actually be preferable to listening to Gary and Keith kneeling in front of the Braves as they'd been doing since I turned the game on in the 3rd inning. Only gonna watch until Purdue-UCONN anyway.

Lopez had 23 saves two years ago and made the all-star team. Had a bad year last year, which is why he was available at a Dollar Store price (relatively speaking). Mets are of course hoping for a bounce back. We shall see.
