yeah...dope, dope, dope. Okay, with that out of the way......

As someone who doesn't even ride a bike... it's still one of my favorite TV events of the year........

This year's Tour de France starts with a 13.2-kilometre individual time trial through Copenhagen, Friday July 1
2,068 miles total....over 2 3 weeks...

And Lance Armstrong won on a level playing field.

In real news Mark Cavendish and Julian Alaphilippe are not riding for Quick Step this year. Cavendish won 4 stages and the green jersey last year. Alaphilippe has not fully recovered from the bad crash in the Liege-Bastogne-Liege

Cav retire? Last year was really a surprise (I thought).... he was super strong - especially coming back from injury.

Agree. For some unknown/forgotten reason, I hated Cavendish at the beginning of his career but have grown to like him over the last several years. Will be interesting to see how much longer he rides.

And for anyone who's interested and doesn't know, the race is on the USA Network daily starting this Saturday, July 2nd.

Doping does take the air out of the balloon interest wise - but I like the scenery and commentary. Color guys are good at history and bilingual stuff. The riders are interesting because they oftren give interesting answers to questions, and not the canned sportspeak that plagues US sports interviews

I like to tape it live (EARLY! - often 3:30am)...and speed watch the DVR for breakfast (or later in the day). Though, you have to be able to accept, some days the recording starts late (or may miss the end if you don't add time)...

Also, most days.. they run an abbreviated/edited version later in the day more geared toward American audiences.

I do the same thing - DVRing the early showing.

I just finished watching the recordings of the Giro - had to add a Spectrum sports package for $6/month so I could get BEIN Sports, a network I had never heard of - and it was good except it was only an hour of each stage. Better than nothing. The announcers were two British guys, neither named Liggett, and were pretty good. They also didn't show crashes like the TdF coverage - at least if they did I missed them.

I hate that there was so much doping going on and am not naive enough to think it's been eliminated but I love watching the sport - the crowds, scenery, strategy, suffering on the climbs, danger of the sprint, all of it. Lance was the high point who then became the low point for me - he was just such a prick in his denials and to so many people in the sport. Took me a while to get over that.

Roglic if he doesn't get knocked-out the first week...
Roglic as well. The Jumbo Visma team is stacked. I'm a big Wout Van Aert fan. Been for many years when he riding and winning many cyclo-cross championships. Hope he takes the green

I too followed Wout in cyclo-cross and had no doubt that he would be a force when he switched to road.

If it's not the TdF, I watch the recording while I'm doing something else, exercise, whatever. But I understand about the tour and it gets all my attention. Last year's Vuelta was a great race to watch, as much for the scenery as the actual racing.

And did anyone notice that Greg Lemond announced he has leukemia? He said the docs are very optimistic and that's good news. He's still my favorite cyclist.

I really enjoy the TDF but I also love the single day classics. Especially the 5 Monuments. Also very into this past weekend when most of Europe where each country held their National Championships. Have been to Belgium twice in the last 10 months for the World Championships and the Tour of Flanders aka De Ronde

Agree on the classics - just wish they were on some cable network(s). Few seem to be.

Don't know about De Ronde as I was there but the Milan-San Remo and Liege-Bastonge-Liege were both on USA. Paris Roubaix was free on Peacock.

Admittedly, I should pay more attention to the dates of the classics.

is it just me or does it feel like Mark Cavendish has been riding in the TdF for centuries......

Love all of the helicopter shots during the TdF, the castles and small french villages. obviously cherry picked views, but so idyllic. Love when they pan back on some of the descents so you get a better feel for how steep those roads are and how fast they are really moving.

Agree. Sometimes I'll set up my trainer in front of the tv and watch races. Just keeping up with the cadence they ride is tough. And they do this for hours.

What's the new way of cheating this year? We've done blood doping, drugs, hidden electric motors. Can't wait to hear what's next.

I never would have guessed the Danes would show up in the numbers they did to support the Tour. Nice job! Meanwhile, the riders rode through some absolutely beautiful countryside. Great publicity for the county.

Not a surprise at all. Most of Western Europe loves cycling. The Tour de France is a big deal and loved more by the European Community then France itself. Belgium is by far the country that loves cycling the most. Netherlands, Italy, Spain and Denmark are more into it then France.

I am so looking forward to the stage tomorrow. From Dunkirk to Calais. Wanted to go with many Western Euro friends. They will able and watch the start and finish in 2 different famous French WWII towns while the pros cycle inland. The beers were flowing on the Belgium/France border coast town De Panne today.

Roglic if he doesn't get knocked-out the first week...
Lots of racing to go but after the opening time trial and given the history of the two favorites Pogacar appears to be the man to beat. Roglic does look ready though in winning both Paris Nice and the Crierium du Daphine, but Pogacar also had a very successful spring campaign.

Don’t know who I got (of the two). I hate rest days. Can’t wait to see what happens next!

Happy 4th of July!
