Those that follow lax will recognize his name. Was watching RU basketball game last night and he is starting point guard for Northwestern. I'm thinking can't be the same guy as he played 4 years at Loyola. Grad transfer. Talk about athletically gifted. Amazing.

Spencer was an absolute monster on the lax field for Loyola. I wonder if he goes pro in lax after the hoops season considering he's I believe a grad transfer at NW.

I believe the plan is to go to the PLL next season. He had some nice offers for basketball coming out of high school. His summers were spent playing at places like Rucker Park and around high end gyms in Baltimore.

Kid is a stud. We didn't see it yesterday but he has some serious hops. Amazing he can not play organized hoops for 4 years then start at a B1G school.

He's a poster for developing. He was the third attackman on his high school team as a senior.

And...shows the importance of being a multi sport athlete. Bucking the trend of specialization as early as middle school.

I don't think its realistic to look at Pat Spencer as an example of anything. He is a world class athlete. He was one of the best college lacrosse players ever. He starts at pg in the Big10 and could make a living playing hoops somewhere and he has mad hops. Maybe if he had specialized more in lacrosse he would have had more options other than Loyola or been even better - same for hoops.

I had a friend try to tell me that a cagey dad could teach their son two throw a football equally well with both hands. His example was Odell Beckham Junior . . . .

I'm all for well rounded athletes and I'm the dad of 2 ambitious lacrosse players - but I'm not looking at Pat Spencer as anything but an athletic marvel. sorry for being the contrarian here.

Actually a cagey dad could teach his son how to long snap. Then he doesn't need Spencer's athleticism.

Pat Spencer played JV lacrosse and basketball as a soph. He wasn't some marvel. He certainly has some gifts, but that is a kid who worked to be in the position he is in. Which is the one common denominator with kids like that, and really most anyone who is super successful. They just work really hard at things.

The D1 world is littered with kids who have Pat Spencer's athletic talents. It's something else he has.

this is a moving target. what i was responding to was the notion that Pat being a multi-sport athlete is something young athletes should emulate or something like that. (like most here I think young athletes should be well rounded and not hyper-focused on one sport) I was merely stating that he isn't much of an example of anything IMO. I certainly wasn't suggesting he isn't a hard worker, driven or focused. that is kind of obvious.

how many kids on the RU lacrosse team can do a 360 dunk? I've known a few over the years including Jules - don't think any of the guys I know can put together a highlight dunk reel like Pat Spencer.

There was an article/ opinion piece in US Lax magazine a few years back arguing kids today are being specialized to one sport way too early in hopes of getting a scholarship and that it was detrimental. Always repetitive on same muscles, no new skills, high burn -out. It was very contrarian. It was arguing that we need to keep Rec Lax and that the club teams are starting to hurt the sport. While the sport is growing the pool of kids playing is smaller and touched on kids who develop later who dont get that same chance. It was a very good article.

There has definitely been a number of what I would consider high level athletes over the years. Francowiak is a bit freakish from what I am told. But yea, Spencer has big hops.
