OT: Popeyes Fried Chicken

The Gino's franchises were founded by Baltimore Colts All Pro DE Gino Marchetti, with partner Alan 'the Horse' Ameche, who scored the winning TD in 'The Greatest NFL Game every Played" late 50's vs The Giants w QB Y.A. Title. Game went into OT and Ameche scored after a Johnny Unitas led drive.
Marchetti was a pretty sharp guy, and Ameche (great RB at Wisconsin) was smart to join him.

Was Tittle really with the Giants then? I thought the QB was Charles Conerly and that Tittle came later.

I agree that Popeye's Fried Chicken is some of the tastiest of the fast food fried chickens. While you are checking it out, try their Red Beans and Rice side. This is very authentic New Orleans Red Beans and Rice which is a weekly meal like spaghetti elsewhere in New Orleans. It is very tasty. Popeye's is a New Orleans based franchise.

Definitely prefer KFC over Popeye's - loved KFC since the days of Gino's, who sold KFC chicken. Gino's was the first fast food place in my hometown, opening up in the late 60s, when I was a kid. Like Bojangles a lot, too.

Popeyes is way too expensive.
Just eat popeyes spinach

I live in China now, close to Hong Kong. I was flying out of HK to go to Thailand for some vacation time. Walking around the airport, I literally came to a dead stop and my jaw dropped as lo and behold there before me was a Popeye's. Couldn't believe it. I had a mini feast at outrageous airport prices, but it was oh so worth it. Biscuits weren't that great though.

Popeye's is good fast food chicken. Ever try Bojangle's? Also very tasty. Both are far better than KFC IMO.

I wrote software for Bojangles about 25 years ago. The founders were KFC owners who knew they could make a better product. I agree with you they were right.

I was in the Hong Kong airport for a transfer earlier last week and saw the Popeyes too! Giving KFC some global competition. It looked as though they were doing brisk business too!

I opted for overpriced, underwhelming dim sum. Maybe I should have gone for the Popeyes too!

KFC are everywhere in Shenzhen where I live. Just as common as McDonald's if not more so. Unfortunately the HK airport Popeye's is the only one I know about.

I find Popeye's to be kind of greasy. I do like their fries and red beans and rice better than some other fried chicken joints.

I would agree some of my favorite fried chicken is from Korean spots, I also think Jolibee (Filippino fast food in some US cities including Jersey City) has some good fried chicken.

I use to eat Popeyes years ago but than started thinking in the early 2000s all the pieces are the same size so i stopped eating it, KFC isn't the same as it was back in the '80s has gone down bigtime imo

KFC is equivalent to Popeye's for me. You really can't go wrong

However, the real MVP is Rooster Spin in Westfield, Korean bbq spot. The best fried chicken EVER!!

Little murky to be honest, but I think what happened is that KFC bought the Gino's restaurants and rebranded them. They both (at the time) fried their chicken in pressure cookers, so were pretty compatible. Not sure if KFC still uses the pressure cookers or not, tbh...
Ginos (owned by former Baltimore Colt Gino Marchetti) sold Kentucky Fried Chicken under license in the northeast US.

Most Ginos restaurants were taken over by Roy Rogers in the mid 80's. Today those locations are mostly Boston Market stores.

I am living in Shanghai and only KFC here. Never seen a Pop Eyes. How long have you been in China? I have been here about a year and a half and need to find a better set up to watch the games - BTN and Sling Box were freezing up because of the VPN...
