Rutgers & NJ @ Heart
Was reading a thread the other day about lack of representation down the shore.

I've been living in So. Cal for over 45 years/ I've been talking up everything from the Centennial Game (1969), to Phil the Thrill / then the final 4....with stops along the way for what's a Volunteer, "W" over MSU....then the Schiano years.

The constant is this....I rep the "R" or RUTGERS wherever I go. From NYC / down the shore (last week) to Vegas .

Let's help our team with support from those who know little to nothing about RU....time to let the secret out of the bottle: we've got a great U here, with a long rich tradition / I'm proud to have graduated (lucky too).

I travel about twice a month for work. each and every time I fly, I make sure to wear a Rutgers shirt to and from the airport. I typically get made fun of when I'm in Chicago but I have a feeling in a few years we'll all have the last laugh

Great idea! Anytime I am traveling from now on I will be wearing my Rutgers gear!

I always rep the R when traveling, especially at the Shore.

Funny R reppin' story - I was in Texas at a conference the day of the 2006 Louisville game. There was a group of Nebraska folk at the conference. One of them came over to me with a sheepish grin and asked "Our group has a question - where IS Rutgers?" Of course, this was well before both teams were B1G.

Why would people in Chicago have any jabs to take at RU?
No idea. In fact, I had the opposite experience in Chicago when I was out there a couple of years ago. I met someone while going for deepdish (terrible idea) who wanted their son to go to RU for grad school.

The only time there were any jabs was at the RU/De Paul game, and those were directed at our former men's basketball HC (the opposing fans were waiting for him to explode, he never did. Eli Carter got injured however).

I did get comments while in Venice (met someone who grew up down the road from where I did, about 5 years apart) and in India (they visited family in Edison and knew of Stuff Yer Face).

B1G country I guess... Keep in mind most travelers mid week are on business and Chicago is a hub. Just last week a guy at the bar went on and on for 10-15 minutes about how badly we got our ass kicked by the big boys... Oh well, I didn't lose any sleep

Wore my Rutgers hat in downtown KC this past week. A couple of folks noticed and asked if I went there.

i got an "RRRRRRRRRRR!" from a passing car in St. John, USVI because we were both wearing R hats. Of course, they got a UUUUUUUUUUUU! back.

Repping the R in Charleston, SC now and will do so again in Savannah, GA tomorrow.

Have my new car only a week and already slapped on the block R magnet and Rutgers/Scarlet Knight license plate frame.

I always have something Rutgers on when traveling...have a R hat or tshirt for the vacation for knocking around...and bring a R magnet for the back of the rent a car

Got to R-Zent

I travel for a living and always proudly have the R on either my hat or shirt. Also have RU luggage tags for my backpack and suitcase. In Europe baseball hats are not popular as is the whole college sports concept. No one over their wears their college "colors". But in the States I get a ton of questions and comments.

BTW my wife shakes her head every time I wear my shirt and usually with a "you do know you are not going to a game but to the airport...."

Will be in Nashville all next week working on a project, and am always lit up like a Rutgers Christmas tree when going through the airports. I also bring a magnet or two to put on the rental car. Pretty much standard operating procedure for an RU crackhead.

Hahaha now thats good stuff! Brings Rutgers car magnets to slap on the rentals. Amazing. Love it.

Confused, you should have had those articles (magnet and license plate frame) with you as you drove it off the lot! [laughing]

Went to Myrtle Beach earlier this month and put a block R magnet and on my rental as I drove it out of the lot.

Mr. Screw and I went to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon a few years ago....he was reppin the R hat dangling at 7000 feet...

Repped the R in Minneapolis/St. Paul this past weekend. I always wear RU hats and gear whenever I travel.

Several comments from the Gopher faithful out there, all either genuinely inquisitive or positive. Most were variations of "Gee, didn't think your team would do that well last year, don't you know?"

I don't wear hats and haven't been near the Shore for at least 20 years, but I do usually wear a Rutgers hoody when flying and always carry an RU windbreaker when traveling, most recently in France on a Seine River cruise, which prompted a conversation with a couple who were USF grads and remembered GS and the Big East days. So RU wear and peanut butter have accompanied me to more than 100 countries and dependent territories, though most places don't have a tradition of university wear.

I also like to give RU clothing as gifts for new borns and have done that here in NJ, in CT, at least 3 times in California, and once in the Philippines, for a child in a family I hadn't met before but whose relatives are Filipino-American friends of mine (not in NJ). So I was very surprised when the parents of the child opened the gift and said to me "Rutgers! We have several friends and relatives who graduated from Rutgers." Small world.

I have a RU fitted that I use to wear everyday (age has taken its toll so it's been relegated to hat I wear at the gym) while living down here in Tampa. Bulls country is well knowledgeable about the RU brand ;) It's a good conversation starter as people from NJ that have made their way down south always introduce themselves.

While living in the Chicago you could find many B1G alumni, especially from Illinois, Wisconsin, Purdue and Michigan. They all shared positive comments about Rutgers and nothing but contempt for PSU - in particular their fan base. Lots of people recognize the block R in the LA area too.

I also travel internationally for work, and being bald it is a must to wear a Block R ball cap when walking around and visiting the local sites. Leads to some good conversations with alumni and fans from other schools.

Got a 'thumbs-up' and a "go RU" as I was sporting my block R cap while walking through Helsinki last April. That cap has been all over the world.

I wish Rutgers would have the same enthusiasm as the OP. No more free Blick R magnets. Probably the best advertising Rutgers ever had. I just don't understand what they are thinking.

WB, this is NOT true. Marc Kollar and a few other posters on this board reached out to Geoffrey Brown, the head of marketing and he very clearly stated to each of them that there will continue to be free magnets.

Um, that was pretty much disproven in the thread about this - the issue appeared to be that the ticket office employees were wrong.

We were driving on ocean ave in sea bright and passed a nice house with a huge flag pole flying the RU flag.

Well those at the RAC still are spewing out that they aren't giving them out as of yesterday. See the new thread on this.

Was down the shore this past wknd (Belmar)... Saw 9 ppl wearing RU paraphernalia, 1 Texas, 1 Syracuse, 1 Fordham, and 1 Ohio St. Not a bad showing.
