Sounds very plausible.Meyer needed a skilled coordinator and Schiano needed an opportunity in order to stay relevant. It works for both of them. Schiano will redeem his reputation and move on to a head coaching position.
How about UCF or GT.......maybe HE'S feeling some vindictive......heez pizzed...so iz wee....we should be too that we were 2nd or 3rd on his options...ef finish the job .he's BETTER NOW.....so iz we on his list.....or iz we ain't....Sorry, I know you guys love the man but Schiano isn't teaching urban Meyer a damn thing about being a coach. Also, OSU fans would lose their shit if GS was his replacement AFTER he was turned down by us, Virginia, Miami, Georgia, and USCe
HIRED GUN......Greg is hired to do what he does best, stay away from the offense.
This.Sorry, I know you guys love the man but Schiano isn't teaching urban Meyer a damn thing about being a coach. Also, OSU fans would lose their shit if GS was his replacement AFTER he was turned down by us, Virginia, Miami, Georgia, and USCe
wow...naivete must be bliss.or maybe he just wanted a great defensive coordinator and Greg wanted to get back to work
That is the only thing I see in this hiring. Meyer wants to go pro and he wants to learn from Schiano about NFL and also transition the program who is ready to take over next year.
You left out, he was turned down by New Hampshire, Villanova,Sorry, I know you guys love the man but Schiano isn't teaching urban Meyer a damn thing about being a coach. Also, OSU fans would lose their shit if GS was his replacement AFTER he was turned down by us, Virginia, Miami, Georgia, and USCe
Remind me again Carolina, Urban hired GS because he was concerned about the eventual sudden rise of RU and wanted to counteract it?wow...naivete must be bliss.

OR…GS needing a job, the friendship between Meyer and Greg, OSU needing a defensive coordinator, having an unlimited bank account and the fact that he's a highly respected defensive coach?
What you think?
Nighty-I admitted in a different thread that one of my first thoughts is this puts Greg in the coach in waiting position. Whether or not it happens or should happen is one debate. The fact that he's in a good position now isn't imo.
Nighty-
I had a good conversation with Urban this morning, he told me he wants to coach at OSU for ten more years…:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
Urban already passed on the Notre Dame job once. Not sure why he'd leave Ohio State for it.Only way Meyer ever leaves Ohio state is if Notre Dame offers him the highest coaching job in college history. Otherwise he's never leaving or retiring.
Mostly because Urban isn't going to the NFL I'd guess. [winking]I ask again, why wouldn't Urban take Schiano to the NFL as his DC?

these guys look out for each other......they make sure no one does without steak on the table....tight knit group...btw not many better than GS coaching intensive pressure D....say what else you will about him...I don't see the OSU fans being happy.
And you didn't even mention does he or his family really want to spend there best yrs living in Columbus when even NYC/NJ metro is beneath them....he's a Jersey/NYC-Fla type of guy...at least warm weather.Urban doesn't get to name his successor at OSU. For that reason alone, the whole Schiano to OSU to become future head coach there would be stupid. But it doesn't end there.
Why would OSU, a national championship contender every year and a school with a near limitless spending budget, choose to hire a guy that couldn't win a watered down Big East conference title, couldn't beat WVU, generally struggled against spread offenses, could be counted on to have at least one WTF game per season, and was a polarizing figure at his last two jobs?
It's very understandable that many RU fans love Schiano because Schiano performed a minor miracle here. But RU fans should understand that the rest of the country does not share this strange adoration of the guy. He was a good DC for Miami. He did a great job of pulling RU's program out of the weeds. He was able to recruit some great players along the way.
But that's it. As a program builder, he's a giant among his peers. As a DC, he's good to very good. As a head coach, he's just average. OSU does not want or need a program builder. They want one of the best head coaches available in the country. A proven winner.
