I run a large girls fastpitch softball tournament in Montville. This year the tournament runs from May 1 to May 3. It is called the Michelle Fund Softball Tournament. It is named after a young girl who was killed by a drunk motor cycle rider while walking with 2 friends roughly 20 years ago. She was a young girl who loved to participate in athletics.
Her parents started the Michelle Fund in her honor and raise money to invest back into young girls athletic activities. This year is our 17th annual tournament. All proceeds from the tournament are donated to the fund. We started 17 years ago as a small 8-team tournament which has grown considerably. This year we have 63 teams participating which means over 700 girls ages 7 through 15 will be running around town playing softball that weekend. 145 games will be played between 6:00 Friday night and 9:30 Sunday night. If anyone is interested in becoming a sponsor (access to coach contacts, set up table at main fields, etc.) or to simply donate, please reach out to me at johill@gaf.com. You can also find us on facebook by searching Michelle Fund Softball Tournament.
