How to do it?
New practice facility? Nope
Schedule? Nope.

Hire a great basketball mind and spend millions on NIL to buy other teams' players. Yup.

RU sports doesn't have a billionaire sports nut like Mike Repole to buy players.

Does RU have a GM in football or basketball?

Pat McAfee keeps having on Belichick and his “GM” Lombardi.

Definitely comes across as very NFL/business like, it’s weird.

Considering that they're NFL guys, it's not that weird. It will be interesting to see how it translates at that level, though.

Saying SJU is "how college programs should be run" is like saying "having wealthy parents is how you should succeed in business". It's not exactly a template others can follow.
How should programs be run, given the current circumstances?
#2 Duke doesn’t classify as wealthy parents in your example?

They’re just doing things ahead of the curve.

I think RU would be wise to follow this model. Let our coaches worry about things like culture, coaching, and growth. Have the GM focus on roster management working directly with the HC.

I actually think this would be a very good thing for Pike.

I have no idea how a college program "should" be run these days, but holding up SJU as an example is just silly. They are doing well because they are swimming in cash, and the current environment rewards that. It's not some magic formula, it's money - it's not like Seton Hall could just follow that template with a wildly different financial situation.

Pitino is one of the best college coaches of all time and also one of the biggest scumbags. Just Google: Pitino, sex, abortion, restaurant, assistant, marriage, payoff, extortion, FBI and that will tell you all you need to know.

GO RU

Still don’t understand how swimming in money and hiring the best coach isn’t how the best programs should be run Chop?
Actually it’s the only way to run successful National Championship seeking programs.
See ND and Ohio St in football.
Michigan has a 9 million dollar recruit.

It's pretty simple. Buy the best coach and players money can buy.

It's not that it's not a successful way to run a program (it clearly is), but to say that is how you "should" run a program is ignoring the fact that the vast majority of programs "can't" run that way because they don't have the $$$.

It's like telling someone who's struggling to pay their rent/utilities/etc that what they 'should' do is just have more money. Or like telling someone who's struggling to find a date that they just "should" be taller and more attractive.... easier said than done. I'm sure every program would love to snap their fingers and have their coffers as full as SJU.

I understand, but this is what we’ve created

Yes. the NIL is important but for St.Johns, Pitino is one of the best game day coaches. They were behind Xavier by double digits in the second half at MSG yet they won the game in overtime.

And they are paying more for Pitino than any other Big East coach... and still got him at a discount because of his past.
