Per Jon Rothstein, St. John's to host Fordham at MSG.

I vaguely remember St. John's and Rutgers unable to reach an agreement and schedule a game at MSG.

Yes - see SJU is the “host”. They don’t want to host us. And we shouldn’t agree to play them there under any other circumstance. Anyone else is fine. MSG is their part time home venue.

we should only play st johns if they would return a game at our place next year

which I guess they would not do.....this is their home court....it would be playing an away game with no return, which is not in our best interests, nor fair.

playing anybody else there would be acceptable.

It would be worse than that. It would be playing an away game there with no return AND it would count as a neutral game in our metrics. Hard no. Anyone else.

Yes that date was def the rumored MSG game. Should’ve done it. So instead everyone will be happy playing Central Connecticut State at home On 12/16?

Hard not think we are looking at a worse schedule than last season. Gavitt game, At Wake, At Seton Hall and that’s it. ..hopeful that the rumored Nova as Gavitt game is a home game to save the non conf home schedule

playing a different, but good out of conference team was the answer, just not St Johns

They are still working on the non-conf schedule. There will be a neutral floor game at MSG for Rutgers this year but not quite sure who they are playing.

Confirmed games for '23-'24

Long Island (Home)
Stonehill (Home)
Wake Forest (Away)
Seton Hall (Away)
Gavitt Games

RU-SJU had an agreement (with MSG) for a neutral site game. RU and SJU wanted 12/23 but MSG dragged their heels on committing to that date. Before a date could be agreed on SJU changed coaches and insisted it be their home game. Naturally, RU didn’t go for that.

Now looking primarily at Pru as a venue. Not having a lot of success finding an opponent.

FWIW last season’s game with Wake was originally discussed as a one time deal at UBS,

We would get as many fans in MSG as they would.

That is not the point
It is their home game
They should then return the favor and then play at our place, just like we would do with other out of conference teams
I could see them insisting we play our home game at Pru. If we play them at MSG, a third of the fans will be RU. At Pru, they won’t get close to a third but still more than they’d get in Piscataway. NYC people hate coming to Jersey even more than suburbanites hate going into the City.

It’s a moot point to argue against RU playing a SJU home game at MSG without a return game. RU already said no to that.

Don't go around posting facts. 😜

You still have it wrong

If we play them at prudential for our “home” game, then we play their
“ home” game at Barclays in NY

Either we both play at home, or both play at a more neutral site

It’s not a matter of the size of the visiting fan base

They play maybe 5 games a year at MSG for the past 6-7 years. True home and away would be RAC-Carnesecca

It doesn’t matter. The Garden is still known as their venue for college basketball. The extra games there is their recruiting punchline. Of all the teams to schedule a neutral counting game against at MSG - they would be last choice by a wide margin. Play the SHU game there one year. That’s fine. Play anyone else there. Not SJU.

You will know our program has truly made it when we play anyone, anywhere
