OT: Tom Savage In The News

I've heard team people say things about Tom Savage for the last 2 years and not one of those things has been bad.

Ya really have to wonder what our upside would have been if Schiano could have made the whole Tom Savage thing work out for us.

It was much more a Savage issue than a Schiano issue....to Tom's credit he did a lot of growing up

Savage was a baby that made bad decisions. He apologized to schiano .

I'd love to know if the girl he was dating when he was at Rutgers, and who so many on here, blamed for Tom's disinterest in off season training, and other non,and football related problems, is still his girlfriend.

Everybody gets that.

Schiano was the adult in the relationship. The onus is more on him to make the relationship work. It's part of why we pay head coaches a couple million dollars a year. I'm not particularly faulting him because it didn't work out - all I said was that it was a shame he couldn't make it work. There's no reason to get your little Gary passions all heated up.

He married her last June. His wedding was actually in New Jersey down the shore in Wildwood Crest.

If he stayed I believe we would have been BCS bound in 2012 :(

Behind that OLine! If he stayed he would have had multiple concussions and would have never seen an NFL field. Getting benched and transferring; someone was watching out for him.

I though TS had the best chance to leapfrog Rice as RUs greatest player when he signed him. Shame it didn't work out like that here, but good to see he's still in the mix.

I have a lot of sympathy for Savage. He was getting hammered behind that line. When given time, he was very effective and has a NFL arm. But that was not happening for him here and we needed someone more mobile to overcome those deficiencies. I'm still a huge GS fan but he shares the blame in this situation as the head coach for poor OL recruiting/development during that period.

Who was the OL coach/recruiter?

I don't care how TS acted. He was brought in to take this program over the hump WITH A WEST COAST OFFENSE HE WAS BUILT TO RUN.

GS changed that with the wacky snap offense.

Savage wanted to transfer after the beatings, not being able to run the Spread and probably refused to listen to anything or anyone - like a typical 19ry old.

That is not the reason why he transferred

Different girl. He met his wife at Arizona
Yep. The girl he was seeing followed him out to Arizona, then I believe came back to NJ.

Wrong, wrong and wrong.

Exactly.

There's no need for that kind of talk on this one. He was a bit immature but has grown up a lot, so I don't see the need to rub the guy's face in it. And Schiano is to blame as well, he bungled the situation in his stubborn manner.

Wrong

Not even close to being correct

And WHAT has happened to UConn football since then?
Since that game, UConn football is 26-42 for a winning percentage of 38%.

For the rest of that 2010 season, they went 5-2, then 5-7 in both 2011 and 2012. Then 3-9, 2-10, and 6-7 in the last three seasons. But the biggest blow has been being bypassed in the conference reshuffling.

You are wrong. I was there. Schiano did not mess up anything. The kids Father was involved and his girl. He admitted he made a mistake and learned from it. No need to revise it I. Your head.

Savage had a great preseason and considering the injuries the Texans suffered this year, the would have had significant playing time (multiple starts) and I believe would have won himself the starting role going forward. He'll get his chance.

I blame Co-OC Flood for that 2009 Syracuse game and the whole 2010 season.. which sucked because every scout saw that Syracuse game. The whole scheme of deep delayed handoffs and using that to set up the pass.. with what looks like pass blocking on every down.. atrocious!
