Smart move, but why the hell wasn't this banned already? No wonder USC gets great recruiting classes every year.

Wonder what other programs allow alcohol in the locker rooms...

USC gets great recruiting classes because they're in southern cal, the weather rocks and there are pretty girls everywhere!

Southern California is a decided relaxed place. Them having alcohol in their locker room is a little bit of a surprise, but not really. A guy like Schiano would never play well out here. People don't respond to that type of intense micro management.

I remember my first shot of rubbing alcohol--went down rough but my lower back was shiny.

It mixes well with Gatorade!

But by alcohol are we talking beer or hard liwuor. And if any alcoholof beverage at all I wonder how it was getting around anything like this potentially being served or available yo minors below the regular drinking age requirements. To me this alone is another open NCAA or state law violation.

Can someone please post the link to any reference/article regarding alcohol in the lockerroom.

Yeah, story seems more like "USC allowed alcohol in the locker room until 2015".
That is not the case Fanu,
MLB and NFL have not only banned liquor from locker rooms, but plane flights as well.
Its been this way for several years now.
Obviously they make some kind of compromise after a team wins a championship with Champaigne, but how they monitor guys driving home is beyond me.
After we won the NL championship at home in 1979, we all drove home hammered....not good.

I stand corrected concerning MLB, it looks like it's up to the individual clubs. I know the Yankees instituted the full ban a few years ago.
Gotta believe most teams have done away with it by now...including the Angels

While Head Coach at Washington, Coach Sark asked for reimbursement for this bar tab, which included 40 shots of Patron:

Stop...having booze in the USC Locker Room had nothing to do with SoCal lifestyle. Sounded like it was requested by a boozing head coach.

No one in the world would have thought booze was available in the USC Locker room or any college locker room.

The "booze" was not in the player locker room... There is a separate locker room (or separate part of the locker room) for the coaches, and that is where the alcohol mentioned is. Apparently it is common for coaches to have a few brews in the fridge of the coaches locker room.

Whats NOT common is for coaches to booze so much that they make fools of themselves in public and then try to tell the players that they should be responsible adults in their daily activities.

I can definitely see the booze in the coaches locker room. But as I stated, assume the coaches stay late, they have 2 or 3 extra beers and on their drive home kill someone...where did they drink? Is there a liability problem for the school?

Did you play with Bruce Kison? He was my grandfather's, brothers, son-in-law...or something like that. When I was 8 or 9, when he was with the Angels, my dad and I went into the city when they were playing the Yankees and had breakfast with him and went to the game. Was quite a thrill for me, but I know his best days were with the Pirates.

This could be a case of a rule that people think they didn't need until it was broken.. Just because something isn't a rule doesn't mean anyone is doing it, but once a coach has a few too many you need to make the rule. Likewise I'm sure there aren't any teams that have a 'no sex with animals in the locker room' policy. You shouldn't need one but once some jerk in Pennsyltucky brings a lamb into the locker room you need to officially declare that the locker room is off limits to lamb buggery. It has to look like you are doing something.

Zap, I could read these little anecdotes all day long. Great stuff that most of us are never privy to.

Well that alcohol thing never worked for Pedro in Major LeaguePedro Cerrano: Bats, they are sick. I cannot hit curveball. Straightball I hit it very much. Curveball, bats are afraid. I ask Jobu to come, take fear from bats. I offer him cigar, rum. He will come.
Eddie Harris: You know you might think about taking Jesus Christ as your savior instead of fooling around with all this stuff.
Roger Dorn: Shit, Harris.
Pedro Cerrano: Jesus, I like him very much, but he no help with curveball.
Eddie Harris: You trying to say Jesus Christ can't hit a curveball?
