So I am headed to visit Baltimore next weekend with my girlfriend, to just spend a few days sightseeing and exploring.... and I need a good date-night restaurant recommendation. Staying at the Hotel Monaco (Kimpton).

I've been on family trips there before with my kids - so I know the casual restaurants of the Inner Harbor, Fells Point, Little Italy, areas etc... But I have no experience with "nice" restaurants in town.

Rather than rely solely on Yelp, I have come to you my dear internet message board friends!

What are you looking for? A nice intimate restaurant. An upscale steakhouse or seafood restaurant. Something elegant with white glove service. Just something better than the typical Harborplace chains.

If you are looking for something more unique to Baltimore, I like Bo Brooks Crab House. It is more upscale than some of the other crab houses in Baltimore, and they have other very good seafood dishes. I would compare it to something like a McCormick & Schmick. But it is still a crab house, and if you are ordering crabs, you aren't going to want to be dressed up. Another plus is it is right on the water, so you have a nice view.

So, while I am a crab/seafood fan, my girlfriend.... not so much.

I would say we're looking for an of the following: intimate and quicky for romantic dinner; upscale steakhouse; upscale Italian.

And not looking for: primarily seafood; anything white-glove super fancy.

The Ruth's Chris on water street has a nice atmosphere as does Flemings. I know they are chains, but the steaks are comparable to all but a few high end steak houses, and these two in particular really do have a good atmosphere.

Duly noted - but I don't see why it would be a big deal a week form now. Unless the place goes up in flames today (not likely) I don't see what the big deal is.

just pick up some hot dogs, sausages, and ingredients for smores. Gonna be a lot of open fires for a cookout this weekend.

because it can take a week or more to generate enough fake outrage, not to mention busing in the protestors. people forget spontaneous riots and violence take time to organize.

And the Soros checks have to be sent out to the protesters... It's a big event.

perhaps you should think North? Newport, RI is supposed to be lovely....
Good idea. Newport is beautiful. I haven't been there in a while so I would hesitate to recommend a restaurant. But it really is a beautiful place. And probably safer then Baltimore at the moment.

Yeah, Newport is definitely a nice place to visit with the girlfriend.
I used to live in Rhode Island and always enjoyed a visit there. Lots of restaurants, nice touristy stuff like doing the Cliff Walk and lots of good bars and shopping. Plus you could always take a 45 minute ride up to Providence too if you care to.
Or even Bristol for that matter is a half hour ride and nice small New England town.

Just my opinion but pick a different city. Drive the extra 45 minutes and do DC or go 5 and hit up Boston. I've been to Baltimore a million times on business and I hate it more than any US city. Unless you are dying to eat seafood specifically crabs it's not ideal for food and entertainment.

Totally disagree. Fed Hill, Hamden, Canton, Fells, Locust Point are all very fun.

Forget Newport Mrs Screw I once saw a black man there. Could be trouble.

don't even try to call me a racist. suggesting an alternative city from one that has recently, at least once , had riots over cop/victim issues does not make me a racist. and why pick on me, why not the 4 other posters that suggested the OP pick a different city? if you have an axe to grind it's not with me so move on.

Wow you are pretty angry I get angry too.. It was a joke. . I am just having a laugh..I have never met or spoken to u in my life. But after this I definately want to at ten paces

With or without the riots and likely looting happening in baltimore, that hell hole should be avoided...at all costs...I feel bad that what ever burns there is going to hurt those who can least afford it...honest low income folk trying to make it...

...but hey, it will give the TelePrompTet in chief a chance to grand stand and it is sure to generate lots of hashtags!

Well we are nerdy, honestly, so the aquarium, fort mchenry, USS constellation, Edgar Allan Poe Museum, etc., are all right up our alley. so entertainment is not a problem.

I was JUST coming in here to recommend that place.

The Harbor East neighborhood of downtown has some pretty nice options. The Charleston is very expensive. Chinghale is nice, too. Ouzo Bay has good food.

Also, don't discount the B&O American Brasserie at your hotel. Good experience and good food.

Is the B&O good? I feel non-adventurous going to the restaurant in my hotel - but if it's good I'll try it!

I am seriously looking at the Woodbury. There is a brew festival at the Zoo on Sunday, so i wonder if that whole scene will be mobbed. (no pun intended)

Thames Street Oyster House.

One of the best Seafood restaurants I've been too. Plus some good NON Seafood choices as well. Was at a Corporate meeting in Inner Harbor, and 4 of us decided to follow a recommendation and took a short cab ride to a lively Fells Point neighborhood. Not overly expensive, nice ambiance , and reasonable bar and wine list.

The Yelp reviews are mixed.

Are the burgers really good? that is key.

Never had the food there. I've heard generally good things but that's more for the bar than food.

Sucks Woodberry is booked. Try day of maybe someone will cancel.

I will try day of... maybe if it rains someone will cancel.

In the meantime, I booked the Capital Grill on Sunday just as a base plan,,,,

Well Baltimore has not burned, so I think I'm OK

I have reservations now at the capital Grille and at the B & O

However, Nother feels adventurous or very particular to Baltimore… So I'm still looking for inspiration, at a place that still has reservations available that is!

If you want burgers try this place in Fed Hill. They have a wction of exic meat available but everything is good.

If you want wings I'd go to Delia Foley's but I believe they are closed Sundays now. Mother's is pretty good also for wings Fed Hill area there has plenty of food/beer options.

If you want real Baltimore and like crabs and crab cakes and crab dip and well, you get the picture, go to Costa's Inn. Bad area, blue collar bar ambiance, but the food, specifically crabs, are the best in BMore.

Agree 100%. Thames St Oyster House is fantastic.

Moving away from seafood though, I had a great dinner at the Brewer's Art in Mount Vernon. It celebrates beer and food pairings, but quite a bit more upscale than a "brew pub."
